I love winter, but I want my Vitamin D!

Hi, lovelies.

It’s been one of those days.. It seems that in winter (without much sun or my favorite weather, rain) I always find myself in a deep slump. I’m either totally bored, grumpy, or not feeling satisfied with my productivity level. It’s during this season that I need to remind myself to slow down and pay attention to my well-being. If you feel the same as myself and many others,- and even if you don’t, it’s still important- take some time today to figure out the ways you can take care of yourself wholly. After all, it’s hard to help out and be kind to others when you’re not feeling well!

How do you practice self-care during these harsher months?

As for myself, I tend to:

❀ Get out of my own head, be it through reading books, watching documentaries, or creating something that requires my focus and attention.

❀ Take multivitamins once a day. I am by no means a doctor (and you should always ask yours first before taking any sort of supplement, but my psychiatrist recommends I take them because we don’t always get enough sunlight/nutrients. I suggest bringing it up with your physician; especially if you take certain types of anti-depressants or anti-anxiety meds like I do.

❀ Try my best to quell feelings of boredom. This means that whenever I’m feeling particularly lethargic and bored, I force myself to get up and do something. When I feel the laziness and dissatisfaction arising, I shall try out a new makeup look (the crazier the better!), make something for someone, bake a sweet treat, look for new music, try out a new meditation or exercise, annoy my merm with random questions, art to my RSL (Radical Self Love) Bible, etc. The possibilities to fill up your boring time are pretty much endless.

❀ Carve out a block of time to work out and pump up those endorphins, and also to meditate. My personal favorite meditations can all be found on Youtube and include Gabrielle Bernstein, The Five Minute Miracle, and Positive Change by The Mind Guide.

❀ Go outside! It’s always incredible to me how much we need nature to be healthy and feel whole. It’s so easy to become hermits and blanket burritos this time of year, but I promise some time outside will do you good. Just remember to dress warmly! Bonus points if you walk your furry friend(s).

❀ Get the chores I hate out of the way. Yeah, I’m looking at you, pile of dirty laundry and un-swept bedroom floor. It’s hard to not feel productive when you’ve already tackled the big things.

Developing & Maintaining Healthy Habits!

Hey y’all! I hope the winter is treating you guys well. Where I live it’s finally getting chilly and I’m excited to break the peppermint tea out. Who am I kidding, I already broke that out a looong time ago.

Anyhoo, one of my goals for the rest of December (at least) is to develop and maintain as many healthy habits and behaviors as possible. The school “year” enabled me to give various excuses for taking shortcuts when it came to health; i.e. “I’m just sooo tired”, “I’m too stressed to do that”, “I totally don’t have time or energy for that”. While I was kept pretty busy, 85% of the time I was simply slacking off- which isn’t cool because I should treat my body right! Our bodies are our temples, as people say. We should practice good health and well being as our religion, and celebrate and show gratitude for the wondrous activities our bodies let us do.

So, now that I have zero excuses to try and shift my focus from health, I’m challenging myself to research on the healthiest things people can do for themselves. I’ll be adding to my (hopefully massive) list of healthy To Do’s as the days go by, but here is the prototype so far:

❀ Drink tea once a day

❀ Listen to feel-good music

❀ Devote an hour to expressing emotions in a creative way (ex: painting, mandalas, sketching, writing, etc.)

❀ Sing (if the day permits)

❀ Brush my teeth twice a day AND floss

❀ Spend a min. of 20 minutes outside every day

❀ Set aside 5-10 minutes of meditation

❀ Break a sweat (i.e. cardio, running, yoga, etc.)

❀ Drink 8 glasses of water a day

❀ Eat a healthy, balanced diet

❀ Stretch!

❀ Pray and remember what I am thankful for

❀ Take care of my poor, dry feet

❀ Moisturize (because having healthy skin is important to stay sickness-free)

❀Be kind to my face and NEVER sleep with makeup on

❀ Read for 30+ minutes

50 Ways To Cheer Up Your Inner-Grump

It’s okay to be grumpy sometimes. Shitty things happen and occasionally we don’t even need unfortunate circumstances in order to feel under the weather. And while it’s totally A-Okay to not feel good all the time, it truly does help to be able to cheer yourself back up. Whether it’s enough to get you on your A-game or simply make you less likely to hurt yourself and do something you will regret later on, it’s all good! Any step in the right direction is a great thing. Here is a list I’ve compiled of 50 techniques I’ve used in the past that have succeeded in raising my spirits. I promise they’re all positive, healthy ideas. (:

1. Give somebody a hug. 2. Bake something yummy. 3. Cuddle with a furry friend. 4. Read a good book. 5. Take a warm shower or a bubble bath. 6. Watch one of your favorite movies. 7. Play Uno with your family/friends (or your favorite game). 8. Volunteer your time for a good cause. 9. Clean the house/your room. 10. Gulp down a glass of water. 11. Take a walk outside. 12. Visit with friends and loved ones. 13. Wear super comfy clothes. 14. Write down all of the things you’re grateful for today. 15. Get crafty and create something. 16. Light a candle in your favorite scent. 17. Wear your favorite perfume. 18. Pamper yourself~ Use a face/body scrub, face mask, hair mask, body butter, etc. 19. Compliment a stranger. 20. Compliment yourself. 21. Exercise and get that heart rate up. 22. Have a delicious snack. 23. Paint your nails in your favorite color. 24. Go on an adventure. 25. Cheer someone else up. 26. Listen to music that makes you happy. 27. Smile. 28. Dress up in the outfit that makes you feel like you can conquer the world. 29. Get out of the house. 30. Cook a beloved meal. 31. Draw something. 32. Watch silly videos. 33. Grab your favorite Starbucks drink. 34. Buy yourself some flowers to brighten up your room. 35. Laugh as much as you can. 36. Have a good cry. 37. Take a nap. 38. Call up a friend. 39. Daydream about happy things. 40. Eat something that’s good for you. 41. Draw flowers/shapes on your arms. 42. Enjoy a cup of tea. 43. 4. Albinwonderland or Angelina L.B (Gorgeous Youtuber with stunning pink hair and a great grasp on Feminism and equality. I always feel uplifted after watching her videos.)
