Developing & Maintaining Healthy Habits!

Hey y’all! I hope the winter is treating you guys well. Where I live it’s finally getting chilly and I’m excited to break the peppermint tea out. Who am I kidding, I already broke that out a looong time ago.

Anyhoo, one of my goals for the rest of December (at least) is to develop and maintain as many healthy habits and behaviors as possible. The school “year” enabled me to give various excuses for taking shortcuts when it came to health; i.e. “I’m just sooo tired”, “I’m too stressed to do that”, “I totally don’t have time or energy for that”. While I was kept pretty busy, 85% of the time I was simply slacking off- which isn’t cool because I should treat my body right! Our bodies are our temples, as people say. We should practice good health and well being as our religion, and celebrate and show gratitude for the wondrous activities our bodies let us do.

So, now that I have zero excuses to try and shift my focus from health, I’m challenging myself to research on the healthiest things people can do for themselves. I’ll be adding to my (hopefully massive) list of healthy To Do’s as the days go by, but here is the prototype so far:

❀ Drink tea once a day

❀ Listen to feel-good music

❀ Devote an hour to expressing emotions in a creative way (ex: painting, mandalas, sketching, writing, etc.)

❀ Sing (if the day permits)

❀ Brush my teeth twice a day AND floss

❀ Spend a min. of 20 minutes outside every day

❀ Set aside 5-10 minutes of meditation

❀ Break a sweat (i.e. cardio, running, yoga, etc.)

❀ Drink 8 glasses of water a day

❀ Eat a healthy, balanced diet

❀ Stretch!

❀ Pray and remember what I am thankful for

❀ Take care of my poor, dry feet

❀ Moisturize (because having healthy skin is important to stay sickness-free)

❀Be kind to my face and NEVER sleep with makeup on

❀ Read for 30+ minutes

Phew, and that’s just the ones I could name off the top of my head! What about you- what are the things you do every day to keep up your good health? Can you add anything to my list? What is your favorite health routine?

Much love & hugs to you all.

New Chapters + Goals

Hello, darlings.

I’m happy to say that the semester is officially over (!!) and I’ll now be able to get back on track with this blog. The past few months of schoolwork and such are done and it’s time for me to process what has happened; i.e. not talking with or hanging out with friends as much, tons of stress over grades, not meeting my own expectations in finals, and the ending of a wonderful, enlightening class about Counseling/Interviewing. Right now, I’m in the process of accepting that this semester wasn’t perfect or incredible and that it is all over.

But all things end.

Tonight is the beginning of a new chapter in my life. Yes, I totally just used a shitty cliche. But damn if it doesn’t apply to the situation perfectly! So while I’m accepting these things I’m also going to be setting up some good goals for myself for the glorious rest time that I have between semesters. I’m going to illustrate those goals, put them up in my room so I can see them every day, and work hard towards them every day. I’m still going to rest a lot (I need the rejuvenation, I worked my butt off this semester!) but I also want to be productive and proud of myself, too.

I feel like even though every day is a fresh start and a blank canvas, this time is going to be more of a new day than ever. I’m excited for what the future holds for me. I’m slightly terrified of what it holds, too. I mean, what if I fail? What if I disappoint myself again?

All I can say to this fear and doubt is: *shrug*

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Seriously- I can’t chance being fearful and not getting anywhere. I need to keep on walking forward, even if it means taking tiny steps some days and a couple steps back some others.

What does this time of year feel like for you? Are you making new goals? What would you like for the rest of 2014?

Monthly Favorites of December

Hello there, lovelies of the internet! I hope y’all are having incredible weekends to match your incredible selves. I’v been rather productive and Violet-ish this month so I thought a small Favorites post would be a good way to get back in the swing of daily vlogging. With further adieu~

Scent: Peppermint or Sweet Mint, because it’s chilly out and why the heck not?

Book: I finally decided to read The Help by Kathryn Stockett after seeing the movie (which, by the way, was pretty dang great). I haven’t finished it yet but I like it so far and recommend it to anyone unsure of what to read next. Seems promising!

Music: *warning, some of these may be too catchy to escape* “Close Your Eyes”- Meghan Trainor. “Part Two”- Paramore. “Riptide”- Vance Joy. “All I Want For Christmas (cover)”- Fifth Harmony. & “Can You Feel My Heart”- Bring Me The Horizon.

Word: Lovelies/Lovely.

Color: Soft, light, and pastel colors!

Power Outfit: Comfy and colorful boots, light-washed skinny jeans, a bright sweater, my Trinity Knot ring, and the precious moon and stars necklace I recently got. (Most other power outfits to default to all black and grey, with skulls and creep aplenty).

Snack: Caesar-flavored pea snap crisps, apple slices with peanut butter, or fresh bread with olive oil and Parmesan.

Mantra: “What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.” – Buddha.

Quotes That Will Boost Your Spirit!

Happy Saturday, darlings. As I was searching for motivation shtuff on Pinterest (‘Cause really, what else would I be doing?) I realized a lot of the quotes I truly loved and felt inspired by came from the same person. I figured Rumi was some New Age badass chick, but it turns out he was a badass Persian poet of the 13th century! Consider my mind officially blown- it’s incredibly amazing to me that things written so long ago by someone so different from me could resonate with my 21st century life. He is wonderful with words and it seems to me that he was a magnificently wise man; much wiser than most.

I seriously recommend reading up on him- what he wrote can very much apply to you today! Here are ten of my favorite quotes from him that lift my spirit:

1. “Respond to every call that excites your spirit.”

2. “Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.”

3. “Hear blessings dropping their blossoms around you.”

4. “As you start to walk out on the way, the way appears.”

5. “Stop acting so small. You are the universe in ecstatic motion.”

6. “If all you can do is crawl, start crawling.”

7. “The wound is the place where the light enters you.”

8. “What you seek is seeking you.”

9. “Yesterday, I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today, I am wise, so I want to change myself.”

10. “Maybe you are searching among the branches for what only appears in roots.”

How To: Make Your Day Fuckin Fabulous (Part One)

Hello my autumn lovelies! Sorry for my extended absence. I started school and have been pretty darn busy on top of having writer’s block (Can I get a collective ughhh from fellow writers?). But fortunately for me, the Universe decided to smile upon me today and not only give me enough time to write, but even feel hella inspired to! I’m sparkling, babe! Cheers to the end of inspiration blocks and to more happy days like this one! Here are the first 25 tips to make your day as marvelous as your lovely self…

In The Morning~

1. Give your body a good stretch. 2. Give yourself a little time to really wake up so you don’t rush through the rest of the morning. 3. Open those blinds, darling! 4. Say “Good Morning” to at least two people; a good idea for those of you who live alone is to shoot a text to a close friend or relative. 5. Have a big glass of water. 6. Put on your favorite jams and dance/sing your heart out. 7. Check out your inspiration board(s) on pinterest. I swear, everyone should have them. 8. Eat a yummy and healthy breakfast to start your day off strong and have you feeling good. 9. Write down your worries (aka: shit you must get done) on a To Do list so you aren’t frantic throughout the day trying to remember that thing that you should have done two weeks ago. 10. Take care of what you can on that To Do list before you go to work/school. 11. Brush your teeth and wash your face! Sometimes that seriously helps me feel better refreshed and ready for the day. 12. Have at least one thing to look forward to today (new episode of your favorite tv show, coffee date with your friend, petting a neighborhood puppy, etc.). 13. Admire yourself in the mirror, ’cause you are damn fine! 14. Get dressed in clothes that you feel comfortable and confident wearing. 15. Tell your negative thoughts that it’s too early for that shit and they need to go back to sleep. 16. Light a candle in a really nice scent (fall is coming!). 17. Pack yourself a nice and healthy lunch because you deserve good things and good food. 18. Don’t forget a savory treat in that healthy lunch, though! 19. Do whatever morning routine feels good to you and relaxes your mind, be it emptying the dishwasher, making your bed, or doing a quick clean up of your home. 20. IF you have the time, work out! Even if it’s just ten minutes, your mind and body will thank you for it. 21. Fill up a bottle of water to take with you throughout your day. Being hydrated = feeling amazing. 22. Set a small goal for the day and set your mind on accomplishing it. 23.Moisturize those feet and those hands- it sucks and can really be distracting if you have cracked skin (it hurts!). 24. Hug somebody (yes, pets count). 25. Smile and know your day is going to be damn great. ❤

Bouncing back after bad experiences..

Hello, loves. We’ve all had bad things happen to us. We are let down by loved ones, become hindered by an unexpected obstacle, we fail in achieving one our greatly desired goals. It can seriously damage your confidence in yourself and your dreams. You may think, Did I make the wrong choice? Was I mistaken in thinking I could trust myself/that person? Am I not meant to be successful and happy? Will my dreams ever come true?

Talk about low morale.

In simple terms, failure SUCKS. It sucks when things don’t go the way we planned or hoped. And if we’re not careful enough, we can let our egos rule over us and we may vow to never try whatever we did again. That’s how people don’t achieve their dreams, friend. If you really want that job, that success, that whatever-it-is that you want, you need to work for it. You need to work for it hard. Your bruised ego might throw doubts and darts of negativity at you but don’t you dare give up on your goals; don’t fucking give up on your happiness. You need to brush yourself off, give yourself a pep talk, and bounce back into it.

For example, I did not get the job at the library. It is very disheartening for me- I thought it was something in the bag. It was perfection and would have made me very happy. Unfortunately, the Universe decided I wouldn’t have that lovely position. And believe me, it makes me not want to try- what if I get rejected from every job that I truly want? I’m scared of being miserable in a shitty job that will lead me to be a shitty person. I’m not exactly happy at the moment.

But I want to be happy. I want my happiness and a secure future that I will love so I will get back up. I’m going to search for more similar jobs with schedules that will work with mine at school. I will apply for all those jobs that fit my needs/wants best. I will show up to any interview- even those terrifying phone call interviews- and pretend I am a damn confident and sociable person who is 110% up for the job, even though it will be scary for me. I’ll probably fail again, and maybe even a third time. But worrying won’t help; it only hurts.

Give yourself the proper time to mourn whatever loss you have suffered, then focus on positivity, get up, and keep on fighting the good fight. Maybe you’re just one more failure closer to achieving your true dreams and a happy life. Stay strong.

Don’t you dare give up.

Beauty isn’t skin deep, but sometimes it’s easiest to start there.

All of us are on our own journeys to self-love, self-acceptance, and true confidence. We are different in many ways and so our voyages will always be a little different. For some people, learning to love their entire selves is easiest done by starting with admiring our inner-selves. Some of us have a more challenging time loving our outsides, so we work from the inside out. But for others, it’s much easier to begin from the outside in. In my experience thus far, it is a tad bit easier to start with showing love to my outer-self and then working my way in. It’s not bad to do this.

There is no wrong way to love your whole self, ‘kay?

Here is a short guide for those who are on the second path. Enjoy; I hope it treats you well and helps you transition into a more confident, loving person. 🙂

Wear what you want to wear. Don’t listen to anyone who decrees what is flattering and what is not. You know what’s flattering to your body shape? Wear whatever clothes you fucking like. If you’re a bigger girl, don’t take people’s bullshit about not being able to rock horizontal stripes or that you should always wear black or belts or something. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re too short for flat shoes or too tall for high heels. There is no such thing. the first step in rocking your physique is to dress it in ways that make YOU comfortable, confident, and feeling like the hot babe you are. Wear what you fucking want and you will always look good.

Adorn yourself if you’d like. If you don’t like to accessorize, that’s fine and dandy. Whatever makes you feel pretty- whether that’s no jewelry, tattoos, piercings, and makeup or wearing all of the above- must be adorned. You feel great in a bold red lip and suicide rolls in your hair? Wear that shit. You feel best when bare-faced and wearing minimal jewelry? Rock it! Whatever your style is, embrace it and don’t ever let anyone (no matter how stylish they seem) tell you it doesn’t look enough/too much. You go ahead and do your thing, girlie. Rock that glittery nail polish or those hoop earrings. You look fantastic.

Leave the house knowing that you look like a billion bucks. Ain’t nobody got time to dissect their appearance and wonder if their style is okay for this world. Walk with an air of confidence: keep your head held high, gaze steady, and breathe easy knowing you look your best because you feel like you look your best. The only person whose opinions concerning your looks matter are YOU and your doctor. Ignore anyone else who tries to tell you what is healthy and unhealthy. Don’t let them convince you that you aren’t trendy enough or that you’re too trendy. Work it girl. You look totes-mah-goats fabulous.

Wishing you a marvelous day. ♥

D.I.Y Happiness Jar

Good morning, my lovelies! Sending you much love and good vibes today. I learned a super cool craft from the ever-stunning Bethany Mota this past weekend and I just knew that I needed to share it with ya’ll. If you’ve never heard of her before, check out her Youtube channel; you won’t regret it. Her videos never fail to put a smile on my face and she’s a crafter at heart so she’s always coming up with cool ways to make things. This project is based on the Happiness Jar she showed in her newest #Roomspiration video.

In short, a Happiness Jar is a way to stay grounded and grateful. Each and every day you add another piece of paper that describes one thing (at the least!) that made you feel happy or smile that day. I really enjoy the bright colors of Post-it Notes so I used scissors to cut off the sticky part and keep the colorful papers next to a gel pen; of course all this is next to my jar. This jar can be **whatever** you want it to be and however you want it to look-as long as it makes you delighted to gaze upon it! It could be a Mason jar, a mini bucket, a box, or a washed glass bottle like I used (It was a Tazo Iced Tea bottle). Decorate it however the heck you want to. This is YOUR little Jar of Happy. Personally, I made sure to include sparkly fibers, charms, glitter, and gems. Go nuts, babe.

I’ve only been using it for two days but I truly feel like it helps me hold on to positive energy. It’s definitely something to try. Let me know if you have tried this or already own one. Do you feel like it contributes positively to your life? What does it look like? How often do you add to it?

Gotta let it happen.

Hello, darlings! How are you? Have you been enjoying this deliciously strange summer? I hope all is well with you all. If you’re having a rough week already, remember that there is someone (& I’m sure more than just me!) wishing you well and rooting for you. You are loved, even if it’s by a sort-of-weirdo and unknown blogger! ♥ ♥ ♥
I’m back from my small Hiatus loves and, well, I’m pretty fucking positive! I don’t know if it’s the restful sleep I achieved last night, my willingness to go on more adventurous-type things, or the amazing music- regardless, I’m happy to be happy. I feel forever grateful.
Here’s what’s happened in the days i haven’t been blogging; I promise I’ve been super busy and not just neglecting ya’ll:
Thursday my beautiful Mermie took off work to help me out with birthday party preparations. It was nice spending a little time with her (as always).
Friday I turned nineteen! 🙂 *throws sparkly confetti and toasts with champagne* I tend to treat birthdays as very celebrations these days. It amazes me that not too long ago- three years- I woke up on my birthday and hated my life. I hated me. I was in so much fucking pain and was very much suicidal. I cannot describe the extent of my sorrows- that’s partially why I took comfort in self-harm, it was a way of expressing the pain that had no words to describe it. But now, right now, I am content. I am happy and feeling like a warrior and I have defeated the demons; or at least I have this morning. That’s a good enough victory for me. So I partied like no other champion: I got all gussied-up, met up with my sleepy bestie M in the late morning to catch up- she was out of state for ten days, man- and exchange birthday gifts. I missed her loads so it was lovely seeing her. Even her kitten Lucy quite enjoyed the assorted ribbons and wrapping paper spread out on her bed, haha. Then I cuddled with J and played a little with the cat and his two little dogs. We ended up grabbing Steak and Shake (the Birthday Caked Milkshake is freaking life-changing, by the way) and hung out with the lovely adoptable cats at the local Petsmart. Then we bought some fries and headed home to watch Archer on Netflix. My parents were as awesome as usual and gave me hugs and my favorite sandwhich from Panera. It was a blessed day.
Saturday was the birthday bbq my mom had planned. C was with me the whole day being her stellar self and there was food and family/family friends galore. J and M visited later in the evening and I made some super yummy Independence Day themed cupcakes that i shall forever be super proud of.
Lastly, yesterday I tried something new and drove up to Bristol, WI with a classmate for the Ren Faire! It was incredible; even better than I had dreamed it would be. It was truly magical and something I’ll have to do again next year for sure.
Which brings us to today~ chilling in my room, enjoying my self-love date (Gala Darling is totes a genius). Nope, I didn’t forget about my last D & T challenge, sillies. 😉

What does your self-love date look like?

Mine includes healthy food and a scoop of birthday cake ice cream as a treat, majorly uplifting songs from Paramore’s latest album (of course), comfy pajamas, staying indoors, and reading fiction books.

PS: I found the best, most positive quote on Pinterest today. “In the midst of winter I found there was within me an invincible summer.”
