Developing & Maintaining Healthy Habits!

Hey y’all! I hope the winter is treating you guys well. Where I live it’s finally getting chilly and I’m excited to break the peppermint tea out. Who am I kidding, I already broke that out a looong time ago.

Anyhoo, one of my goals for the rest of December (at least) is to develop and maintain as many healthy habits and behaviors as possible. The school “year” enabled me to give various excuses for taking shortcuts when it came to health; i.e. “I’m just sooo tired”, “I’m too stressed to do that”, “I totally don’t have time or energy for that”. While I was kept pretty busy, 85% of the time I was simply slacking off- which isn’t cool because I should treat my body right! Our bodies are our temples, as people say. We should practice good health and well being as our religion, and celebrate and show gratitude for the wondrous activities our bodies let us do.

So, now that I have zero excuses to try and shift my focus from health, I’m challenging myself to research on the healthiest things people can do for themselves. I’ll be adding to my (hopefully massive) list of healthy To Do’s as the days go by, but here is the prototype so far:

❀ Drink tea once a day

❀ Listen to feel-good music

❀ Devote an hour to expressing emotions in a creative way (ex: painting, mandalas, sketching, writing, etc.)

❀ Sing (if the day permits)

❀ Brush my teeth twice a day AND floss

❀ Spend a min. of 20 minutes outside every day

❀ Set aside 5-10 minutes of meditation

❀ Break a sweat (i.e. cardio, running, yoga, etc.)

❀ Drink 8 glasses of water a day

❀ Eat a healthy, balanced diet

❀ Stretch!

❀ Pray and remember what I am thankful for

❀ Take care of my poor, dry feet

❀ Moisturize (because having healthy skin is important to stay sickness-free)

❀Be kind to my face and NEVER sleep with makeup on

❀ Read for 30+ minutes

Phew, and that’s just the ones I could name off the top of my head! What about you- what are the things you do every day to keep up your good health? Can you add anything to my list? What is your favorite health routine?

Much love & hugs to you all.

Monthly Favorites of December

Hello there, lovelies of the internet! I hope y’all are having incredible weekends to match your incredible selves. I’v been rather productive and Violet-ish this month so I thought a small Favorites post would be a good way to get back in the swing of daily vlogging. With further adieu~

Scent: Peppermint or Sweet Mint, because it’s chilly out and why the heck not?

Book: I finally decided to read The Help by Kathryn Stockett after seeing the movie (which, by the way, was pretty dang great). I haven’t finished it yet but I like it so far and recommend it to anyone unsure of what to read next. Seems promising!

Music: *warning, some of these may be too catchy to escape* “Close Your Eyes”- Meghan Trainor. “Part Two”- Paramore. “Riptide”- Vance Joy. “All I Want For Christmas (cover)”- Fifth Harmony. & “Can You Feel My Heart”- Bring Me The Horizon.

Word: Lovelies/Lovely.

Color: Soft, light, and pastel colors!

Power Outfit: Comfy and colorful boots, light-washed skinny jeans, a bright sweater, my Trinity Knot ring, and the precious moon and stars necklace I recently got. (Most other power outfits to default to all black and grey, with skulls and creep aplenty).

Snack: Caesar-flavored pea snap crisps, apple slices with peanut butter, or fresh bread with olive oil and Parmesan.

Mantra: “What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.” – Buddha.

Confidence-boosting playlist + short life update!

What a lovely, surprisingly-chilly Tuesday, huh? How have ya’ll been this week? I hope things are getting off to a great start with you. Keep on keeping on, babes. Like I mentioned in my earlier posts, I’m in that awkward soul-searching stage of my life (bahhhhumbug!) so I’m dwelling in the realm of self-care and “the meaning of life”-type stuff. You know, the norm. 😉

And bless the stars- I feel like writing! Huzzah! I haven’t exactly writer’s block, per say, I just didn’t care and have enough drive to actually do it. Which, as a lover of both reading and writing, TOTALLY sucks and it bummed me out. But I’d rather much focus my energy and passions today on my blossoming creativity!

Recently, I’ve decided to update my Feel-Good Playlist to a more specific Hell-Yes-I’m-Hot Playlist. The kind of music that makes me sway my hips, sing my heart out, and believe every kind thing anyone (including myself) has said about my body and mind. A girl has to feel like a mega babe and these songs truly make me feel like the temple of my body is worth regarding as sacred.

Here goes:

“Anklebiters”- Paramore

“Grow Up”- Paramore

“Bravado”- Lorde

“Tennis Court”- Lorde

“BO$$”- Fifth Harmony

“Salute”- Little Mix

“Wings”- Little Mix

“All About That Bass”- Megan Trainor

“How To Be A Heart breaker”- Marina & The Diamonds

“Fancy”- Iggly Azalea; covered amazingly by Megan Nicole

“Legendary Lovers”- Katy Perry

“Dark Horse”- Katy Perry

“Pretty Girl Rock”- Keri Hilson

“Changin’ Me”- Cady Groves

What songs do you listen to when you need a little reminder of your awesomeness?

As for my life, I’ve of course been reading tons every day. I’m back to exercising every day (Yay! I missed you!), still trying to eat enough and healthy, and I have a Psychiatrist appointment today. It’s been forever, so I’m actually pretty stoked about it! I’ve even found a nice little bedtime routine to calm me down for sleep AND express my gratitude towards the Universe. Sounds like a winner, eh? Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have an empty house full of quiet to get back to. Wishing you guys some inner peace. 🙂

Feel-good music

Good morning, beauties! I woke up today feeling pretty meh (due to weird love-type shit which I’ll explain one day in a later post) but when I realized I was home alone for once, I could enjoy myself! There’s something so incredibly peaceful about having an empty house that’s all yours to play in for the day. I think I might actually get stuff done today ;)

Before I get into my possible to do list, I want to share a little anxiety-buster with you: singing!

I love to sing. I like to think I have a pretty good voice, but in all honesty it can just be super fun and a healthy way to wake up. I’m a morning person, but I’m still working on the waking up part har har. I’ve read a few articles about the benefits of singing, such as: working the muscles of your body (yes, even when sitting!), controlling your breathing, lowering blood pressure, increasing blood circulation, etc. It’s a lovely little workout that makes you feel super good about yourself and life. It doesn’t matter if you don’t sound like Beyonce, as long as you enjoy it, you should do it. If you want to read up more about the benefits of singing, here’s a decent link: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/10168914/All-together-now-singing-is-good-for-your-body-and-soul.html

Along with singing, I’ve noticed that the right kind of music can really lift me up (even when I’m feeling downright awful). I would stay away from sad/heartbreaking songs that might influence your mood in a much more negative way. As beautiful and magical as Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” is, it’s probably not going to help you feel happier. So here is a small playlist of the songs that work for me on meh mornings!

“Love Me or Let Me Go”- Avery

“Go Screw Yourself”- Avery

“Postcard”- Bridgit Mendler

“Anklebiters”- Paramore

“Wings”- Little Mix

“Cityscapes”- Katie Costello

“Dark Horse”- Katy Perry

“Pearl”- Katy Perry

“Us”- Regina Spektor

As for my possible to do list for the day, yesterday J (best friend/ex/?) brought over pots of flowers that I want to plant so I should probably get going on that. Then I shall do the dishes, tidy up my room, finish up my laundry, get my appointments figured out, and… I don’t know. I guess, leave some room in my schedule for some bad-assery and magical shit?

Peace out, you majestic creatures! Keep on doing you. ♥

What songs are on your feel-good playlist? Do you enjoy singing? What song have you been playing on repeat lately? (For me it’s “Empty” by The Story So Far) What is on your majestic to do list this spring morning?
