How To: Fueling Your Passion

Good morning, darlings. I’m sending you guys hugs over the Internets and tons of happy vibes. Is the summer treating you well? Or, for those in the southern hemisphere, is it chilly where you’re at? No matter what the weather, I hope y’all are safe, comfortable, and at peace. Now- down to business.

It’s no secret that a book a day keeps the boredom away. Books keep magic alive and well in our hearts. When Nature is having a dramatic mood swing, nothing feels better than to stay inside and cozy up with a good book. It’s one of the most luxurious feelings to have, in all honesty.

If you’re feeling a bit dull- like I was- even reading a book that you might normally enjoy can seem tedious and chore-like. And since a lack of enthusiasm usually indicates a less-than-fulfilling life/lifestyle, we obviously need to fix that icky monotony. A good way to do that, I’ve recently realized, is to read a book specifically about something you feel the most passionate about. Be it about environmental issues, the conservation of the honey bees, financing or psychology, pick up a book on it! At times I felt so lack-luster that I couldn’t bear to pick up an interesting fiction novel, I gravitated towards a book on mythology and the history of religions/spiritualities. Because it’s a subject I’m so enthralled by, I was able to read and become absolutely enchanted and inspired. It feels great to learn new things about a topic you love.

And though this tip may not work for everyone, getting your mojo back is an incredibly important task to do for yourself and of a high priority. Hopefully, it will help you with fueling your fire just as much as it has done for me; you’ll never know until you try.

Best of luck and loads of love,

Violet XO

Oh, Spring, it’s been too long!

To my fellow Pagans or Wiccans, merry meet and happy Ostara! It’s so exciting to welcome Spring after such a harsh Winter. I’m wishing you all bright blessings and a joyful celebration. For those who are unaware of Ostara and are curious about it, here are a few links:

It’s a very blessed holiday considering it is also a New Moon tonight AND a solar eclipse! I’m going to deck myself out in pastels and flowers, and plants some new seeds today. Then, when I go to work, I’m going to do my best to be as cheerful and positive as possible (and maybe grab a little cake for my friends and family).

Blessed be, y’all. I hope your day is incredible.

Much love & Good vibes,

Using Color To Help Yourself

Hello, beautiful! I feel like it’s been forever since I posted and I’ve got a bit of a brilliant life update for y’all. I’m officially employed! Yep, I started just a week ago and am starting to get into the routine of things. It’s quite a lot of work, to be honest, but the environment is very cheerful and positive so overall I enjoy it. I feel so blessed to have a job. I’m a shy/nervous person naturally and this job happens to involve a lot of social interactions. Next weekend I’ll make sure to post up something about how I psych myself up for my shifts, how I manage to stay relaxed despite a stressful schedule, and any other tricks I’ve learned so far.

Now, let’s dive deep into this week’s topic: colors and their power. By power, I’m specifically referring to the symbolism of various colors; i.e. the associations and meanings we have assigned to each of them. I’ve mentioned before how symbolism can help you achieve goals, but here I’m going to go much more into detail and focus on just color symbolism. Here is a relatively average guide to colors and their meanings (you may recognize them easily since we tend to have certain meanings attached to specific colors):

Red- love, passion, life, fierceness, power

Orange- warmth, the Sun, positivity, energy, creativity, optimisim

Yellow- brightness, warmth, success, the Sun, wealth

Green- prosperity, health, nature, harmony, balance, relaxation

Blue- tranquility, peace, relaxation, calm, rest

Violet/Purple- intuition, magic, power, the Moon, enchantment, spirit, imagination, dreams

Pink- romance, love, peace within (mind and body), sweetness, kindness, beauty, emotional healing, compassion

White- purity, magic, positivity, goodness, the Moon, freshness, hope, spirit, clarity

Black- warding off negativity, mystery, grief, power

Brown- warmth, nature, being genuine and honest, comfort

Grey- helpfulness, knowledge, wisdom, security, sadness, conservative, neutral, balance

Of course, as individuals we may also have our own personal interpretations and meanings of colors. For example, I consider green a much more positive and happy color than yellow. So take this as it is- a simplified guide- and feel free to go with what you feel is right.

The goal is to use the symbolism of colors to your advantage. Pick a color that symbolizes something you need, desire, or want to achieve. Dress in that color. Paint your nails different shades of the color. Use that color of sticky post-it notes and write with a pen that has that color ink. Surround yourself with a certain color and you also surround yourself with that color’s meanings and symbols. Use different colors to remind you of or help you obtain something. Test it out for a week or so and hopefully you’ll see a difference in your life.

Much love and good vibes,

Violet XO

Blessed Yule & Spreading the love ♥

Good afternoon, babes! I’m wishing y’all a happy and merry Yule. 🙂 Yule is the time of the winter solstice and one that Christians and their holiday Christmas borrowed a few traditions from. It’s a time of celebration- it is when some Pagans and Wiccans observe the story of a god being reborn. Sound familiar? It’s also a time where we are invited to look within ourselves for wisdom and guidance and plan ahead for the next wintry months. If you’re interested in learning more, a couple basic informative webpages are: https://wicca.com/celtic/akasha/yule.htm & http://paganwiccan.about.com/od/yulethelongestnight/p/Yule_History.htm.

I’ve had my altar decorated for a while (glittery pine cones, deep and royal jewel-tones, gold/silver/white candles and all) and I can’t wait to spread the holiday cheer. Since my family and I still celebrate Christmas, I’m saving the gift giving for the 25th. Other acts of kindness, however, are fair game for today. It’s always nice to have a reminder to be your kindest, most loving self!

For those who would like to join me in making a small piece of the world a little brighter, I’ve listed a few things I’ve done/will be doing today to invoke the jolly holiday spirit!

♥ If you’re on any virtual gaming websites, spend some of your points to buy kind gifts and gift randomly to strangers! An example for a virtual pet site could be giving out food that someone could feed their pets, a toy the pet can play with, etc.

♥ When you’re browsing the comments section of a post or article, be an encouraging soul! There’s usually a few bummed-out people on there, and sometimes a few kind words or a *hugs* can help cheer that person up. You can also write a “Good job! Thank you for writing this!” or “Well done!” if you enjoyed the piece.

♥ Pamper your pets! Whether it’s giving them a special treat, carving out more time of your day to play with them, super-cleaning their living space, or taking them on an extra walk, our furry friends (and non-furry) deserve some love and affection.

♥ Write out a spontaneous Thank You letter or send a random loved one a card listing some of the reasons why you think they are great!

♥ Spend time outside today; we can’t forget to show Mother Nature some love! Grab your bestie and pick up some litter, then treat yourselves to some yummy hot chocolate or heated beverage of your choice.

♥ Compliment a stranger who you genuinely think looks good in that scarf or has their makeup done gorgeously!

♥ Smile at other people!

♥ Do some extra chores around the house! Do a kind deed without someone asking you too, do a loved one’s chore that you know that they strongly dislike doing. I guarantee it will make their day a little easier.

I hope you have a great Monday and a blessed Yule. What do you do for others on days like this? How do you spread your kindness?

Monthly Favorites of December

Hello there, lovelies of the internet! I hope y’all are having incredible weekends to match your incredible selves. I’v been rather productive and Violet-ish this month so I thought a small Favorites post would be a good way to get back in the swing of daily vlogging. With further adieu~

Scent: Peppermint or Sweet Mint, because it’s chilly out and why the heck not?

Book: I finally decided to read The Help by Kathryn Stockett after seeing the movie (which, by the way, was pretty dang great). I haven’t finished it yet but I like it so far and recommend it to anyone unsure of what to read next. Seems promising!

Music: *warning, some of these may be too catchy to escape* “Close Your Eyes”- Meghan Trainor. “Part Two”- Paramore. “Riptide”- Vance Joy. “All I Want For Christmas (cover)”- Fifth Harmony. & “Can You Feel My Heart”- Bring Me The Horizon.

Word: Lovelies/Lovely.

Color: Soft, light, and pastel colors!

Power Outfit: Comfy and colorful boots, light-washed skinny jeans, a bright sweater, my Trinity Knot ring, and the precious moon and stars necklace I recently got. (Most other power outfits to default to all black and grey, with skulls and creep aplenty).

Snack: Caesar-flavored pea snap crisps, apple slices with peanut butter, or fresh bread with olive oil and Parmesan.

Mantra: “What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.” – Buddha.

Preparations for the upcoming Esbat!!!

Squeeeee! As you can tell by the multiple explanation points in this post’s title, I am WAY stoked for the closest Esbat. I haven’t celebrated one in soooo long- I know, shame on me- and I’m even more because this Esbat falls upon a super lucky day:

Friday the thirteenth!

I know, I know. Lucky? More like most-likely-to-be-killed-by-a-serial-killer unlucky! It might surprise you to know that not all (or that many) cultures consider thirteen an unlucky number. Every culture has its own set of things deemed lucky/unlucky. For example, while buildings in the U.S might skip a thirteenth floor (though only through numbering), while in China buildings are more likely to skip the fourth floor because the Chinese word for four sounds very similar to their word for death. I used to be terrified of the number thirteen because of all the Western media that condemns it with horror movie themes and unlucky events that appear on the news. However, I dove into the history of thirteen and discovered that the number actually used to be considered very lucky. According to some, it was a number greatly connected to the Moon, lunar calendar, and femininity; huge parts of Wicca. So the fact that the most lunar-associated number, that ALSO corresponds with femininity, landing on a Friday (which is considered as a day connected to Venus/Freya/other Goddesses of the same nature) AND having a full moon?! if that’s not a hella positive and amazingly powerful sign from the universe, I don’t know what is.

If you want to learn more about the histories of Friday the thirteenth or why certain numbers are regarded as bad/good omens I seriously encourage you to read up on it. It’s such an interesting thing to explore!

So you know I am taking full advantage of this Esbat. Since I’ve already written a long intro, here is a simple list of things I’m going to do in preparation for this Friday:

1. Draw a relaxing bath before my shower, taking the time to put on a face and/or hair mask on, and think good thoughts.

2. Decorate my altar to correspond with the Esbat (i.e: symbols of love, romance, femininity, thirteen, positive changes, the moon, etc.).

3. Bake something with good, positive intent to make people smile, happy, and feel comforted; I have a bonfire to go to so I’ll be making Oreo muffins. Yum!

4. Wear an outfit that makes me with fabulous and that embraces my femininity. For me, that means flattery and comfy clothes, clean nails, shimmering makeup, and loooots of pastels. Yep, not a day for my badass purple lipstick haha.

5. Do a kind deed for Mother Earth: for example, a nature walk with a loved one where you pick up litter to dispose of, pruning and taking care of your garden/flowers, leaving excess animal-safe foods out for the little critters, putting up a birdfeeder/butterfly bath, trying to use as little electricity and gas as possible, etc, There’s an infinite amount of lovely things you can do for the environment!

6. Do something equally as loving for my marvelous human buddies! Write a random letter expressing your care for that person, leave sweet notes in public places, draw a picture for your little sister- once again, the possibilities are endless.

7. Give thanks to the Universe for the privilege, food, shelter, love, opportunities, kindness, and health that I have in my life. I’ll probably make a gigantic gratitude list.

8. Have a small offering to the Goddess(es)/Universe for being so darn wonderful and cool and for giving me life. I don’t do the typical cakes-and-mead thing normal Wiccans do. Instead, I like to fill a small, porcelain teacup with a little bit of milk, honey, and a small sugary treat and place it on my altar overnight. In the morning, I toss the food out the window and clean the cup for continued use.

9. Be extra aware of how I speak to, approach, and treat other living things- hopefully with love, kindness, and respect.

10. Read to my heart’s content, because I love myself and I love to read!

11. Spend time outside and outdoors.

12. Write down my current goals, hang ’em up, and focus on them. Full moons are a great time to focus on positive change and new things.

13. Celebrate! Woo!

Hey, thirteen also happens to be MY lucky number 😉

Garden Witchery

Happy Tuesday, people of the Interwebs! Sorry I didn’t post the flower spell last night, I honestly wasn’t feeling it. I was pretty grumpy. However, today is a new day and I’m pointing my face towards the sunshine- though some gloom and rain would be super appreciated, Mother Nature. I won’t be posting a ton on Wiccan topics since I’m still in the learning process, but if it’s relevant or when there is a Sabbat or Esbat coming up (These are sort of like holidays or days for sacred celebration) I’ll write a post or two. I figured with spring coming to an end and summer arriving shortly it would be a lovely time to talk about a little Garden Witchery.

Do you remember hearing the advice from older folk to talk to your flowers? I’ve heard this wise advice a few times and not surprisingly discovered it may have its roots in old Pagan culture. Wiccans and Pagans tend to get a pretty shitty rep in modern media, but magick isn’t some Hocus Pocus. I mean, there are wands involved (along with various other symbolic tools, like in most religions) but at least in my eyes, it’s more of a focused self-aware thinking. Many things we do in our daily lives (spring cleaning, putting good intentions into cooking/baking, and hanging mistletoe and similar holiday greenery up around the house in the winter period) are actually traditionally Pagan. As you see, there’s nothing extremely weird about those things; they are simply traditions that call upon us to live in the present and use our power to create a loving, nature-centered, and safe environment. That was sort of a murky explanation ha, but Wicca can be hard to describe sometimes.

Well, the older people were onto something: plants react and may grow when surrounded by vibrational stimuli. Our voices and spoken words involve vibrations, and according to research plants may best grow when around music. Most of us don’t want to set up a stereo next to our gardens that plays music 24/7, so singing or speaking to your flowers is the next best thing. To learn more about helping your plants to go, check out this interesting source: http://www.proflowers.com/blog/can-talking-to-plants-help-them-grow.

My small spell that I speak or sing to flowers is this (feel free to create your own if you’d like to try it for yourself!);

Sweet little blossoms

stretching towards the Sun,

May your petals unfurl

and stems grow strong.

May you live in peace

with the birds and the bees,

drink your fill from rain

and feel love from me.

You can sing or speak these when watering or grooming your garden. As long as you truly mean and believe it, the magick will begin its work. Try to think positive, calm, loving thoughts when gardening. And if you’re not Wiccan, simply enjoy the happiness the garden gives you and let the plants soak up those healthy vibrations!

Are you growing anything in a garden this year? What are your favorite flowers? Do you have any gardening/planting tips for us beginners (this is my first time in ten years)?
