A Long-Overdue Update

Happy Friday, y’all! I’m so grateful that it’s the weekend. I’ve been feeling so lazy and sleep this week and I’m determined to be super productive and energized this weekend. I hope you all get done what you need to get done and get plenty of rest and laugh a bit too. Since I went on a month-ish-long hiatus from the Blogosphere I figured a quick life update was in order. Here goes…

  • I’m still single. J and I still have feelings for each other but I truly believe that at this point in our lives we’re betting off staying best friends. I’m not looking for any romantic relationship- I’m quite content by myself.
  • As tiring as it can be, I’ve come to enjoy working at the bakery. My coworkers and bosses are fabulous and I’m so blessed to receive a paycheck and work with such awesome ladies.
  • I have one more (!!!) semester of college left before I earn my A.A! I’ll be graduating before the end of this year and I’m very excited and nervous. I’ll have to write a post on the subject, I think it’s something a lot of people my age would appreciate and hopefully find comfort in.
  • I recently turned 20! And so far, being the big 2-0 has treated me quite well.
  • I’ve fallen off the goals/dreams wagon lately but I’m getting my ass back on tracks. I think I deserve to be happy and well, so I’ll try my hardest.

Sorry for such a tiny post today, loves, but I have a ton of things to do and have to be at work this afternoon. I’m hoping to begin posting every few days and (hopefully) you’ll enjoy some new content!

So much love and hugs,

Violet XO

A reminder for ~YOU~!

Hey there, darlings. This message is made special just for you- all of you. If you’ve been waiting for a sign, or some sort of comfort from the Universe, this is it. You are unbreakable. You may bend underneath the pressures of life, but you will never be broken. Your scars are proof that you can overcome anything. You have immeasurable strength, courage, bravery, and beauty. Beautiful isn’t the most important thing for a human to be, but know that you are gorgeous- a stunner inside and out- and it is totally okay to feel that way about yourself. It’s okay to feel beautiful, and it is not selfish or vain to do so.

You deserve to love yourself. How can you help others if you’re not well yourself? “Once we acknowledge and accept the good in us we can spread the good in the world” (if someone knows who first said this quote, please let me know in the comments below). Once you light a spark of love and compassion in your own heart, it will be much stronger and brighter; it will truly help you spread that love to others.

Treat yourself kindly, whether you’re celebrating a raise or feeling disappointed in yourself over a recent failure. You deserve your love and care 100% of the time. If you had a child, would you only love them when they behaved their very best? No, even though they may be difficult or challenging for us, we still love and care for them. Why is it so easy for us to love other people, in all their imperfect glory, but so hard for us to do ourselves the same favor?

Love yourself. Love others. Give yourself a break and rest when you know you need to. If you just took a few steps back, reflect on what went wrong and see what you can learn from it. Let it catapult you towards your dreams and desires. “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop” (Confucius). Celebrate all your victories, no matter how small. Take a couple risks and learn to listen to yourself, so you can better listen to others. Go after what you really want.

Your strength is unfathomable, your courage untouchable, and your beauty undeniable.

I hope this small letter gives you a little more hope and peace to hold on to. I hope you accomplish every single one of your dreams.

Wishing you the best & lots of love,

Violet XO

Making Resolutions & Goals Stick: Putting In Your Intentions!

Hello there, cupcake! ‘Tis Monday again, and for some of you it’s back to school or work after a brief holiday break. Now more than ever- if you truly want to stick to your resolutions or goals- is the time to strengthen your foundation. This foundation will be the core of your desire and willpower to power through your goals, step by step, and achieve what you might alright be thinking is impossible. But if you really want success for yourself, you need to mean business. We’re five days into the new year, and in the words of Neil Patrick Harris’s family holiday card, it’s time to “Make 2015 your bitch”!

Many times when we fail at achieving a certain goal we set for ourselves, it’s because we start off with a shaky foundation. A weak foundation will only make you more likely to crumble, and you’re honestly too awesome for that shit. Keeping resolutions is hard enough without the extra pressure to sit still and let your hard work deteriorate. It’s all too easy to just think, There’s always next year. But like I said, you are a rad and beautiful and all-around-lovely person- you CAN achieve what you personally believe is success, whether that means eating less junk food, flossing once a day, complimenting yourself and others once a day, etc. Your goals don’t have to be massive or world-altering. After all, the best and most powerful way to change the world is to first change yourself.

Here are a few things that will help strengthen your foundation; all of them fall under the phrase “putting your intentions into” things. 2015 is your year!

You gotta inspire yourself. No one is going to do it for you. That’s right- the muses won’t whisper in your ears every day, nor will you have constant “A-ha!” moments. That is on you. You can’t just wait for inspiration to find you, it just doesn’t work like that. The way people stay inspired and their desires stay aflame is because they motivate themselves. Don’t wait for inspiration to come to you- go out and find it. Make an Inspiration board on Pinterest that you can look at every morning, set up a playlist with motivational tunes that get your passion all fiery, look up TEDxTALKs that relate to your mission, etc. Your goals and journeys are your own, and so is your determination to get things done.

Symbols, symbols, symbols. There’s a reason why so many people are finding a place in new-agey spirituality- as humans we absolutely adore symbolism. We love hidden meanings or just that meaning is placed within something. Something about symbolism attracts us, calls us. You can use this to your advantage! Create symbols that correspond to your desire/future achievement/goal/your end result and then use them as often as you can. For example, let’s say your long-term goal for 2015 is to find harmony within yourself and your world. You find that certain colors, greens and blues, make you feel calm and at peace. You also find pictures of the Yin-Yang and peace sign relax you and put you at ease. You might even perceive a certain animal as the picture of harmony within the self and the world. Once you know what symbols work best for you and your cause, use them every damn day. Paint your nails teal, wear shades of blue, find a pendant with a Yin-Yang or peace sign charm, find an animal totem that fits your description, draw those symbols on your wrist, etc. There are so many possibilities. Use these symbols in ways that you will constantly see them and be reminded of what you’re working for. Put intention into how you decorate yourself and your environment.

Lastly, write that shit down. Oftentimes, when giving advice, successful people suggest journaling, writing every day, or just having some sort of creative outlet to express your desires/how the journey is going/what it will be like when you accomplish your goals. Writing things (or drawing things) down is a way to help remind the brain what you are doing and why. It helps the resolutions stick in your mind, and it is by far the easiest way to put your intentions into something. Keeping an art journal, a diary, or a daily blog (hehe) will help tremendously.

I hope these tips help you along the path that you’ve chosen to walk! Let me know what your goals are, or what you do to put your intentions into what you do. Wishing y’all the best of luck! XXOO

Positive & Easy Visualization!

Good morning, you stunning mega-babes. It’s finally the weekend (and one after a stressful holiday at that). I hope it treats you kindly and you get to do what you want.

I’ve become a frequent XOJaner because occasionally they have magnificent, beautifully written, and thought provoking posts. And while most of the time the comments sections are a shitshow, I’ve noticed that the XOJane community can also be a loving and compassionate place of support and kindness. People use it as an outlet to express troublesome feelings or talk about their problems, and a lot of the time the responses are positive and caring.

As I pondered what to check out on the Interwebs today, I visited the most recent open thread. One of Jane’s questions was “what’s at the top of your Best Of 2015 List?” and explained a visualization technique that involved jotting down ten things you want in 2015 and write them down as if they have happened. Personally, I think this idea is GENIUS, so I wanted to share it with you lovely people. Bonus points if you meditate on it once a day. 😉

Here is my Best Of 2015 List:

☼ I was published again.

☼ I won a writing contest.

☼ I tried tons of new, positive activities and healthy foods.

☼ I volunteered to help animals and various other causes.

☼ I pet, like, ALL the animals.

☼ I made straight A’s in both semesters.

☼ I dyed my hair purple again and looked like a fabulous mermaid.

☼ My skincare was steady so my skin cleared up completely.

☼ I increased my confidence and self-esteem

☼ I gained 10 more followers to my blog and people commented on some of my posts.

That was surprisingly easy to write! Tip: Don’t let negativity try to put a damper on your dreams for 2015. You might have a small voice saying “I can’t do that well” or “This is unbelievable and impossible to achieve”; tell that voice to suck it and keep on dreaming big. What are your Best Of 2015 moments? Share ’em below!

New Chapters + Goals

Hello, darlings.

I’m happy to say that the semester is officially over (!!) and I’ll now be able to get back on track with this blog. The past few months of schoolwork and such are done and it’s time for me to process what has happened; i.e. not talking with or hanging out with friends as much, tons of stress over grades, not meeting my own expectations in finals, and the ending of a wonderful, enlightening class about Counseling/Interviewing. Right now, I’m in the process of accepting that this semester wasn’t perfect or incredible and that it is all over.

But all things end.

Tonight is the beginning of a new chapter in my life. Yes, I totally just used a shitty cliche. But damn if it doesn’t apply to the situation perfectly! So while I’m accepting these things I’m also going to be setting up some good goals for myself for the glorious rest time that I have between semesters. I’m going to illustrate those goals, put them up in my room so I can see them every day, and work hard towards them every day. I’m still going to rest a lot (I need the rejuvenation, I worked my butt off this semester!) but I also want to be productive and proud of myself, too.

I feel like even though every day is a fresh start and a blank canvas, this time is going to be more of a new day than ever. I’m excited for what the future holds for me. I’m slightly terrified of what it holds, too. I mean, what if I fail? What if I disappoint myself again?

All I can say to this fear and doubt is: *shrug*

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Seriously- I can’t chance being fearful and not getting anywhere. I need to keep on walking forward, even if it means taking tiny steps some days and a couple steps back some others.

What does this time of year feel like for you? Are you making new goals? What would you like for the rest of 2014?

Sassafrass speaking

Happy Saturday, lovelies! 🙂 How have you been doing? Good, I hope? Just in case, I’m sending out mental hugs and good vibes. I just thought I would share a snippet of the interesting epiphany I had yesterday. In the middle of one of my incredulous dreams (I can’t even explain how odd they are every time) there was a scene in which I was sitting comfortably next to some dude -who was totes gorgeous by the way- in a super bright, sunny room. I felt completely relaxed. He said something to me that I can’t recall, and I replied with something along the lines of “Yeah, I feel pretty good in my body. I mean, Damn. I look gorgeous and I don’t need someone to tell me I’m beautiful. I feel so good in my own skin.” I felt so warm and fuzzy inside! >_< I felt 100% confident, even though my self-harm scars were showing and I was wearing short shorts; proudly displaying my slightly stubbly legs and the inevitable cellulite my thighs carry. I gave zero fucks about these “imperfections”. When I told my bb girl M this dream, she mentioned that maybe it’s a sign from the Universe/my subconscious that not only is radically loving myself super possible but I can do it right at this moment! So regardless of what the heck that dream actually meant, I’m going to go with her theory and fill myself up with some positive inspiration!

Have you ever had an “Aha!” moment?

xxooxxoo

Today is one hell of a day- go live it!

I’m feeling super optimistic today. I’m not exactly sure why I feel so positive, but who am I to disagree? Maybe the universe is giving me a little push in the right direction. Who knows? 🙂

I’ve so far gone almost a week without wearing makeup. I think my skin is thanking me for it. I still have the breakouts that started forever ago, but so far zero new ones. And that’s awesome! I’ve been reading some interesting self-help books- three so far- and a common theme to living happier and healthier is to celebrate every milestone, no matter how tiny or insignificant it seems; because in reality, isn’t it significant? Without the inches we’ve traveled, we would have never gotten as far as we have. Ever centimeter is vital to our happy outcome. Therefore, I am celebrating my skin not developing any new blemishes and to show my face I appreciate it, I’ll pamper it with a homemade face mask and a DIY massage. Am I the only one who takes DIY beauty waaay too much to heart? Whenever I request that my parents buy something from the grocery store, they have a joke where they ask “Are you going to eat it? Or are you going to put it on your face?” Harr hardy har. Whatever- I had darn glorious skin when I did that sort of thing often. I’m not afraid to be silly if it leads to good skin to match my smile! 😉

It still feels weird to compliment myself. Even though I know I am a humble person who doesn’t think of herself as superior to anyone, this healthy behavior is typically depicted by unhealthy characters in the Media. For example, the gorgeous popular girl who appreciates herself but also does really awful things. The positive characters usually feel bad about themselves and their appearance, but they are still accepted as better or healthier. It would be nice if the good character displayed this habit too. As odd as it seems, loving yourself does NOT equal narcissism. We should have a better representation of strong female characters, you know?

However, I seriously implore you to start being kind to yourself. If you can’t yet say a totally nice compliment to your reflection, don’t try to force it and just half-ass it. That won’t help you learn to love the vessel you’ve been given. Instead, if you can’t say “I love my legs”, try something along the lines of “My legs aren’t perfect or super great, but they carry me everywhere I go and they’re definitely not the worst legs in the world”. If you start doing an exercise like this in front of a mirror every day, eventually you’ll discover other body parts that “aren’t so bad” and eventually even “gorgeous”. I know you can do it, all you have to do is try. ♥

Another thing I read along my literary journal is this:

If you never ask, you’ll never receive.

Simple enough, yes? And yet, my lovely tater tots, it’s something all of us don’t always quite take to heart. Our brains understand the sentence and the meaning, but it still doesn’t quite connect in our mind. At some point, we’ve all let our doubts take over- we’ve made excuses and reasons to not do something we want to do. You don’t ask about a raise because you’re able to make a living out of your current salary, change is unpleasant along with confrontation, and your boss could always say no. But guys? The absolute worst that can happen is that he/she will say no. I think that’s a very valid reason to go for it- you won’t be harming yourself or another, and if you never ask for that increase in pay, you will. never. ever. get. it.

There’s nothing that risky about asking for something you desire. If you have a dream, you can totally make it happen. You just have to recognize your excuses are products of your self-doubt and that the only thing holding you back is your negative thinking.

You go girl. Open up that bakery, or start on that novel. We can’t wait for you to succeed.

Much love and happiness being sent your way! Hope this post inspired you as much as it did me.
