New Chapters + Goals

Hello, darlings.

I’m happy to say that the semester is officially over (!!) and I’ll now be able to get back on track with this blog. The past few months of schoolwork and such are done and it’s time for me to process what has happened; i.e. not talking with or hanging out with friends as much, tons of stress over grades, not meeting my own expectations in finals, and the ending of a wonderful, enlightening class about Counseling/Interviewing. Right now, I’m in the process of accepting that this semester wasn’t perfect or incredible and that it is all over.

But all things end.

Tonight is the beginning of a new chapter in my life. Yes, I totally just used a shitty cliche. But damn if it doesn’t apply to the situation perfectly! So while I’m accepting these things I’m also going to be setting up some good goals for myself for the glorious rest time that I have between semesters. I’m going to illustrate those goals, put them up in my room so I can see them every day, and work hard towards them every day. I’m still going to rest a lot (I need the rejuvenation, I worked my butt off this semester!) but I also want to be productive and proud of myself, too.

I feel like even though every day is a fresh start and a blank canvas, this time is going to be more of a new day than ever. I’m excited for what the future holds for me. I’m slightly terrified of what it holds, too. I mean, what if I fail? What if I disappoint myself again?

All I can say to this fear and doubt is: *shrug*

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Seriously- I can’t chance being fearful and not getting anywhere. I need to keep on walking forward, even if it means taking tiny steps some days and a couple steps back some others.

What does this time of year feel like for you? Are you making new goals? What would you like for the rest of 2014?

Gentle Reminder That…

You are worthy.

You are beautiful and stunning and looking hella fine today.

Your insides are just as glowing, too.

Progress is a process, and that you can’t do everything perfectly every single day. It’s one of those things you take one step at a time.

You are bigger than any obstacles heading your way and you CAN overcome them.

This is a gentle reminder that you are just The Bee’s Knees and a little update too. I’ve only got one more week left of the semester (GET YOUR PARTY HATS OOON) and I have a deliciously long winter break- six freaking weeks. I’m excited to announce that I’ll have a lot more time to post here, and maybe even write once a day! I’ve got some big plans for the next six weeks for Scars & Sparkles.. heheh. Stay tuned and I promise it’ll be worth it.

Happy Friday, lovelies. Much love & Good luck,

Violet

Catching up & Best Journal Prompts

Good morning, beauties! I wanted to let you all know I’m breathing haha. I’ve sooooort of abandoned all hope on Nanowrimo, but at least I made it to 8000 words? I’m a little disappointed in myself- which means that I will be writing hella words today in order to appease my guilt- but I’m trying not to feel too bad. At least I’ve had good reason for not writing: I’ve been social (gasp!), done homework, been studying for tests, and spending time working on myself and with my family. It’s safe to say I’ve been a bit busy.

One of the good habits I’ve been trying to cultivate is journaling. I know, cue the collective sigh. I get it- we all say we’re going to do it, we do it every day for a couple weeks, and then it falls off the radar of our busy lives. I’ve noticed, however, that writing down a set of good journal prompts helps to not only keep me focused, but also remind me to journal. I just feel more inclined to write out my thoughts if I have a prompt written down. I’m sharing some of my absolute favorites; I hope some of these inspire you to write out and process your thoughts. It could be the healthiest thing you’ll do today!

  • Short-term goal for the day: ____________.
  • Long-term goal for the day: ____________.
  • Best compliment I’ve received recently: ______________.
  • What was the best part of your day?
  • What lessons have you learned?
  • How can you help someone out this week?
  • Good habits I want to cultivate: ______________.
  • Bad habits I want to get rid of: _____________.
  • How will I work on stopping these bad habits?
  • How can I make healthier decisions today?
  • I love myself because: ____________.

How To: Make Your Day Fucking Fabulous (Part Two)

Good morning, buddies! I would have gotten this entry out sooner but I caught this super weird 24 hour bug. I was pretty sure that I had the flu (constant need for the bathroom, hella achy body, upset stomach, feeling cold on a 75 degree day) but after a nice cup of Theraflu tea and some sleep I feel a bit better. Maybe it was just a weird, non-sneezey cold? I still feel weak and sick but I’m feeling good enough to write so I figure I’m on my way to feeling better.

Anyhoo, darlings, here are 15 more ways to create a wonderful day.

In the evening:

1. Make sure to have a good dinner. 2. Drink some water and stay hydrated. 3. Pour yourself a nice cup of apple cider or your favorite tea or hot choclate (It’s nearly autumn- did you really think I would leave out some good fall activities?). 4. Light some candles, dim the lights, watch your favorite tv show/movie and cuddle with blankets on your couch. 5. Do one small chore; hopefully by this time you’ve done all of the big things on your to do list. If not, do what you can. 6. Put on your damn comfiest pajamas. 7. Prepare for tomorrow. I find my mornings go much smoother when I’ve done some prep the night before, i.e: putting out my outfit, packing my backpack, making my lunch/snack, etc. 8. Take care of yourself, whatever that means to you. Just make sure it feels good! Especially in the fall- along with washing my face and brushing my teeth- I like to put on body butter and lotion up my feetsies before slipping into gloriously fuzzy socks. 9. Find a nighttime routine that works for you. Having a routine helps you train your mind and body to start winding down at a certain point in the evening. 10. Try not to go to bed at some ungodly hour. Sleep is your friend, bud. 11. Express your gratitude, be it through adding to your Happiness Jar, a gratitude list, a thankful prayer to whoever you believe in, or just naming things in your head that you appreciate. 12. Try to give yourself 15 minutes of zero technology/lights before trying to fall asleep. If you’re as addicted to your phone/laptop as I am this actually proves to be a bit of a challenge. But I promise- it gets easier! 13. Thank your body for all that it does for you. It works really hard to let you live this life (: Show it some love. 14. Hug a plushie, pillow, person, or pet! Evening cuddles are the bomb diggity. 15. Go to sleep knowing that even if your day didn’t go as well as you hoped, tomorrow is a new, bright day with opportunities and good changes.

It’s way too early but screw it, I’m going to be positive anyway!

Good (ridiculously early) morning, darlings. I have zero ideas on how the hell I am awake at this point and why on earth my body decided to rouse me from my awesomely weird dreams at THREE IN THE GOD DAMN MORNING! *flails around in a sleepy rage* But you know what, I’m going to roll with this. People say “the early bird gets the worm”, right?

…Right?

Oh gosh, I need to pull myself together and think like a person. I apologize if this post is a little fuzzy, I’m inspired to post but at the same time, my brain is not yet fully functioning.

Onto the topic for today: ounces of happiness with a cup of positivity. (Cheesiest shit I’ve ever written. I need sleep). On this bright, sunny morning, pour yourself your favorite pick-me-up beverage and take a deep breath. Look at this sentence:

It’s going to be a GREAT, freaking majestic day. 🙂

And if you’re lacking some motivation at the moment, I pulled together some amazing quotes from equally amazing people to inspire the slippers off of you!

“Make the decision to talk about your blessings more than your problems. Whatever you focus on expands.”- http://www.myrenewedmind.org

“Optimism is a happiness magnet. If you stay positive, good things and good people will be drawn to you.”- Mary Lou Retton

“The future belongs to the people who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

“This day will never happen again.”- Merton

“There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.”- C.S Lewis (ooooh can we talk about how magical he is?!)

“Pessimists never go on a voyage of discovery, equally so they never leave the shoreline in search of new horizons.”- Stephen Richards

“Be so positively positive that the devil issues a memo directing his minions to avoid you at all costs.”- Dodinksy

“If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”- Roald Dahl (♥ my personal favorite)

& lastly, Zooey Deschannel (marry me please!) with this quote for all the badass women out there, including myself, that are strong without hiding their vulnerabilities:

“Being tender and open is beautiful. As a woman, I feel continually shhh’ed. Too sensitive. Too mushy. Too wishy washy. Blah blah. Don’t let someone steal your tenderness. Don’t allow the coldness and fear of others to tarnish your perfectly vulnerable beating heart. Nothing is more powerful than allowing yourself to truly be affected by things. Whether it’s a song, a stranger, a mountain, a rain drop, a tea kettle, an article, a sentence, a footstep, feel it all- look around you. All of this is for you. Take it and have gratitude. Give it and feel love.”

The birds are a’chirping and the sunshine is calling me to the world of the functioning. What is your go-to quote for mad inspiration and motivation? Is your favorite in this list? What are you inspired to do today?
