Feel Good Favorites ★☽ PART ONE

Good morning, loves. Sorry that I haven’t posted here in a while, my anxiety has been having a bit of fun with me lately and I just didn’t feel like writing. I nearly had a panic attack earlier this week for the first time in several months. On the upside, though, it was a powerful reminder to take care of myself to the best of my ability and show compassion towards others (because what’s the fun in loving yourself if you aren’t loving other people, too?). I’ve been doing my best to heal myself (medication of course included, I take it daily) and have found some things that seem to be working for me quite well. I hope my list gives you some inspiration on how to be good to yourself or simply serves as a reminder that you’re not alone on your journeys to self-love and personal growth. And for those of us recovering, I’d like to mention that no recovery is perfect; there will be relapses and mistakes and fuck-ups. That does not mean we failed. You can only fail if you don’t try again the next day!

1. The Nutribullet. I was blessed and lucky enough that my parents were able to get me a Nutribullet for my 20th birthday (!! Squeee!!). Not only is it super satisfying to see all the solid stuff turn into a smooth blend, but it’s added a bit of motivation for me to eat healthier and try new fruit/greens combinations. My personal favorite concoction so far is a banana, some frozen strawberries/blueberries, some fresh spring mix salad, lemon-flavored greek yogurt, and a touch of water. If any of y’all have this device or something similar I recommend that blend (and psst- tell me down below what your favorite is!).

2. The Desire Map by Danielle LaPorte. While I don’t agree 100% with all that she writes, I think her “Desire Map” is a simple but brilliant concept! I first snatched up this book at the library when I was browsing self-help books (yes, I’m THAT person) and I really enjoyed it. The only problem was that the second half of the book was a workbook and it felt imperative to complete that section in order to reap all of its benefits. So I was able to get my own personal copy and having been writing in it ever since. It’s a very good practice for anyone that’s trying to understand themselves better and, as the author Danielle puts it, create goals with soul. It’s certainly an interesting read.

3. A daily yoga practice. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned on this blog before how much I dig yoga. It feels energizing, restorative, and all around lovely. My goal everyday is to allow myself 30 minutes (at the least) to do some yoga. The ideal goal would be 60 minutes per day, but I’m having trouble committing to just half an hour so I’m still in the process. It’s awesome if you join some sort of class, but for me I enjoy it most when I’m by myself and I don’t have the time/money to attend one. I find the best thing that works for me is setting up my laptop near my mat and putting on some Youtube videos. I recommend a channel like DoYouYoga for everyone, especially if they’re beginners because the yogis are excellent at explaining how the positions should look/work. My go-to teacher on their is Erin Motz. I like to either watch a few of her videos from the 30 Day Yoga Challenge or just her 30 minute routine video. Wherever you go to practice, just do it! I promise it will help you with your mindset and health so much.

That’s it for today- within the next few days I’ll finish up the list with my other feel good favorites. For now, I wish you all the best of luck and am giving you all big internet hugs.

Loads of love,

Violet XO

A Long-Overdue Update

Happy Friday, y’all! I’m so grateful that it’s the weekend. I’ve been feeling so lazy and sleep this week and I’m determined to be super productive and energized this weekend. I hope you all get done what you need to get done and get plenty of rest and laugh a bit too. Since I went on a month-ish-long hiatus from the Blogosphere I figured a quick life update was in order. Here goes…

  • I’m still single. J and I still have feelings for each other but I truly believe that at this point in our lives we’re betting off staying best friends. I’m not looking for any romantic relationship- I’m quite content by myself.
  • As tiring as it can be, I’ve come to enjoy working at the bakery. My coworkers and bosses are fabulous and I’m so blessed to receive a paycheck and work with such awesome ladies.
  • I have one more (!!!) semester of college left before I earn my A.A! I’ll be graduating before the end of this year and I’m very excited and nervous. I’ll have to write a post on the subject, I think it’s something a lot of people my age would appreciate and hopefully find comfort in.
  • I recently turned 20! And so far, being the big 2-0 has treated me quite well.
  • I’ve fallen off the goals/dreams wagon lately but I’m getting my ass back on tracks. I think I deserve to be happy and well, so I’ll try my hardest.

Sorry for such a tiny post today, loves, but I have a ton of things to do and have to be at work this afternoon. I’m hoping to begin posting every few days and (hopefully) you’ll enjoy some new content!

So much love and hugs,

Violet XO

Surprise! I’m back, baby!

Good morning, lovelies of the Interwebs! It’s been a hot minute since we last spoke, huh? I apologize for not being on in so long. I’ve been in a sort of denial about writing lately. Part of me felt too overworked to write, and the other part of me recognized that I simply didn’t want to write. I know, I know. Bad Violet- writers keep on writing! It doesn’t matter if they want to, they just do it anyway and see where it takes them! But anyhoo, personally, I’m not being too hard on myself because I feel as though I was in a negative, unsatisfactory, just-plain-dull place in my life; and this is a space dedicated to positivity, love, and compassion. I felt entirely at a loss as how to navigate my life and my feelings. It wasn’t that I was in a dark place- it was nothing like that- but it was an area devoid of true joy and genuine passion. Let’s be honest, if I can’t get my shit together enough to help someone smile a little longer, then how useful would my writing be?

So as totally cliche as it sounds, I’ve been doing mega soul-searching. I’ve had my nose in books, flowers in my room, crystals around my neck, and all other things I assumed a lifestyle guru would suggest. I’ve learned quite a bit and I’m honestly so psyched to share it with you all.

Cheers- to new beginnings, and picking up where we left off.

Tons of love,

Violet XO

Positive & Easy Visualization!

Good morning, you stunning mega-babes. It’s finally the weekend (and one after a stressful holiday at that). I hope it treats you kindly and you get to do what you want.

I’ve become a frequent XOJaner because occasionally they have magnificent, beautifully written, and thought provoking posts. And while most of the time the comments sections are a shitshow, I’ve noticed that the XOJane community can also be a loving and compassionate place of support and kindness. People use it as an outlet to express troublesome feelings or talk about their problems, and a lot of the time the responses are positive and caring.

As I pondered what to check out on the Interwebs today, I visited the most recent open thread. One of Jane’s questions was “what’s at the top of your Best Of 2015 List?” and explained a visualization technique that involved jotting down ten things you want in 2015 and write them down as if they have happened. Personally, I think this idea is GENIUS, so I wanted to share it with you lovely people. Bonus points if you meditate on it once a day. 😉

Here is my Best Of 2015 List:

☼ I was published again.

☼ I won a writing contest.

☼ I tried tons of new, positive activities and healthy foods.

☼ I volunteered to help animals and various other causes.

☼ I pet, like, ALL the animals.

☼ I made straight A’s in both semesters.

☼ I dyed my hair purple again and looked like a fabulous mermaid.

☼ My skincare was steady so my skin cleared up completely.

☼ I increased my confidence and self-esteem

☼ I gained 10 more followers to my blog and people commented on some of my posts.

That was surprisingly easy to write! Tip: Don’t let negativity try to put a damper on your dreams for 2015. You might have a small voice saying “I can’t do that well” or “This is unbelievable and impossible to achieve”; tell that voice to suck it and keep on dreaming big. What are your Best Of 2015 moments? Share ’em below!

Monthly Favorites of December

Hello there, lovelies of the internet! I hope y’all are having incredible weekends to match your incredible selves. I’v been rather productive and Violet-ish this month so I thought a small Favorites post would be a good way to get back in the swing of daily vlogging. With further adieu~

Scent: Peppermint or Sweet Mint, because it’s chilly out and why the heck not?

Book: I finally decided to read The Help by Kathryn Stockett after seeing the movie (which, by the way, was pretty dang great). I haven’t finished it yet but I like it so far and recommend it to anyone unsure of what to read next. Seems promising!

Music: *warning, some of these may be too catchy to escape* “Close Your Eyes”- Meghan Trainor. “Part Two”- Paramore. “Riptide”- Vance Joy. “All I Want For Christmas (cover)”- Fifth Harmony. & “Can You Feel My Heart”- Bring Me The Horizon.

Word: Lovelies/Lovely.

Color: Soft, light, and pastel colors!

Power Outfit: Comfy and colorful boots, light-washed skinny jeans, a bright sweater, my Trinity Knot ring, and the precious moon and stars necklace I recently got. (Most other power outfits to default to all black and grey, with skulls and creep aplenty).

Snack: Caesar-flavored pea snap crisps, apple slices with peanut butter, or fresh bread with olive oil and Parmesan.

Mantra: “What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.” – Buddha.

Gentle Reminder That…

You are worthy.

You are beautiful and stunning and looking hella fine today.

Your insides are just as glowing, too.

Progress is a process, and that you can’t do everything perfectly every single day. It’s one of those things you take one step at a time.

You are bigger than any obstacles heading your way and you CAN overcome them.

This is a gentle reminder that you are just The Bee’s Knees and a little update too. I’ve only got one more week left of the semester (GET YOUR PARTY HATS OOON) and I have a deliciously long winter break- six freaking weeks. I’m excited to announce that I’ll have a lot more time to post here, and maybe even write once a day! I’ve got some big plans for the next six weeks for Scars & Sparkles.. heheh. Stay tuned and I promise it’ll be worth it.

Happy Friday, lovelies. Much love & Good luck,

Violet

Nuuuu, not Mercury Retrograde!

Good morning and happy Friday, beautifuls! How was your week? Have you been participating in #Lovetober? I have- it’s actually been very nice and relatively simple. It’s a little something I get to look forward to each day. 🙂 Let me know if you guys want me to share mine.

So Gala Darling (Glitter Goddess) has reminded us all that- once again 😦 – Mercury is in fucking retrograde. I actually found the best thing on the Interwebs recently:

heheheh.

heheheh.

Now, for those of you who don’t know, Mercury Retrograde is a time when the planet Mercury appears to be orbiting backwards; rising in the west and setting in the east. According to my Astronomy class, it looks like that because Mercury has a longer orbital path than Earth- meaning the circle it makes around the sun is larger than that of Earth. Because of this, the Earth sometimes “catches up” to Mercury and passes it, making Mercury seem as though it is moving backwards in the sky. In more spiritual terms, Mercury Retrograde is a time when the attributions of Mercury (travel, transportation, messages, communication, etc.) are in their messed up, weakest forms. Gala Darling describes it here:

“It’s like everyone you know has suddenly gone mad! You might find yourself getting into bizarre arguments about nothing at all, being unable to finish sentences or barely even able to form a coherent thought. Your computer and other electronic equipment is more likely to go on the fritz. You could experience travel delays, too. Double-check your flights and take a book with you to keep you occupied while you wait for the train! We don’t tend to get all the information we need at this time, so it can be hard to make big decisions and it’s not always the best time to sign a contract, either. Expect to hear super-loud complaining from your friends who are Gemini or Virgo, since both are ruled by Mercury! Mercury also rules a lot of industries like publishing, writing, editing, advertising, sales, public relations and anything to do with transport, like airlines, the post office and cabs!”

Cue the universal ughhhhhhhghghghghgh.

Not the best time of the year for those of us who depend on creativity, communication, and getting shit done. So what the hell can one do to make the best of this frustrating event?

Should we panic??! Let's panic!!

Should we panic??! Let’s panic!!

Luckily, there are several guides on how to survive Mercury Retrograde and even make it into a beautiful situation. I’ve listed several links to guides I’ve found most helpful. Even though it technically doesn’t even start until tomorrow, it’s best to have our shit together as best as we can and prepare!

When life trips you up…

It can be really hard to get back up. I’m not sure why, but even when the obstacles present in our life seem small and insignificant, they can still pose great challenge. Especially when you’ve gone through things much worse (hello, week stay in a mental hospital) and so you feel silly for being so “dramatic”. But regardless of how big or meaningful or dire the bumps in the road are, each time we manage to go climb over them it still feels like a battle- and when you’ve overcome that teeny tiny hill, it still fills you with accomplishment and bravado.

So while last night I had heartburn a thousand times more painful and harder to work through (heartburn is fucking killer :l) than the emotional obstacles I faced yesterday, it. Was. Still. Hard. Long story short, I began this blog on another blogging site, blog.com. It was literally the first free website that come up, and I instantly fell in love with the admin process, layout of posts, and the gorgeous, fairytale theme. Unfortunately, this excitement only lasted two days, as although my blog technically still exists somewhere in the vast land of Internet, the website has deleted all recollection of me as its admin and therefore says I have zero posts and whatnot. Yep, kind of a bummer. Oh, and their help/support page apparently doesn’t exist. But according to my expert snooping skills, the website hasn’t been doing well since 2013. Okay, so a few posts from the site’s official blog may that explained this may have come up on my dashboard, but I am a detective, god damnit.

Thankfully, I was able to find this lovely website right hurr that had the same stunning theme. Content sigh ♥ And while this shit was pretty much no big deal, it stressed me out like crazy because I genuinely enjoy blogging and finding hobbies that make me feel good is kind of hard for me. So that’s my story about how I freaked out over three posts on a blog I just made and nearly cried out of frustration.

Presently, I’m determined to actually do something today. My “oh-so-productive” day that I predicted? Yeah, didn’t go that well. The past few days I planted all of the flowers J and his mom passed onto my care (and my little bb’s are already growing!) but that’s where my productivity halted. For two days. But I promise,- nay, I pinkie swear!- that today is my day to shine and be hella creative and productive. I have so much to do… ;-;

Buuuut before I go, here’s a little life tip if you guys are in the difficult process of loving yourself and exploring life, surround yourself with positivity. Not just in real life either, but here on the web. I promise we don’t bite! Here’s a couple bloggers to start you off. If you haven’t already, pay the mega babes Gala Darling (http://galadarling.com/) and Veronica Varlow (http://dangerdame.com/diary/), it’s sooo incredibly worth it. They truly inspire me and I think they might inspire you too 🙂

Do you have any favorite bloggers that you think embody true self-love and inner-peace? What about writers, artists, teachers, etc.?

Hello there, lovelies from the Interwebs!

This is my first blog post ever, so please try to excuse my nubbiness. I want this blog to be a small piece of comfort for you to

have in your lives. Of course any gender is welcome at my blog, but as a woman I’ll be focusing on things that relate to my gender (sorry dudes!). But if you like what you read, feel free to please keep on reading and enjoy yourself. This will act as a sort of journal for me, along with little things and excerpts I find beautiful or important. I’m up for healthy debates and discussions, but if you simply insult me or anyone else or just be rude, I will delete the comment. A lot of times I’ll probably just ramble and be Violet-ish, but my goal here is to express, inspire, and hopefully get a smile to crack on your lovely face! Feedback and comments are appreciated.

PS: I originally started this blog on blog.org but apparently that site is known for being incredibly shifty and glitchy. 0/10 would NOT recommend.

I hope your Sunday is as magical as you are!

Sunshine & Hugs,

Violet Petals
