So my spontaneous (AKA: from this morning) resolution for the Witch’s New Year is going to drive me insane.

Hello, beautiful people! I haven’t written on here in what seems like forever. School is past midterm so I’ve been really focusing on homework, while attempting to stay sociable, healthy, get sleep, and take care of my precious bb loaches.

Not my actual Loaches in this pic. But they are totes this adorable.

Not my actual Loaches in this pic. But they are totes this adorable.

Since yesterday was the wonderful Samhain, it is the time if year for me to start drafting out some new, positive resolutions and kick some booty. Usually I just stick to completing my bucket list, but this year (and this morning, cough) I’ve decided to participate in the dreaded…

Nanowrimo!!

*GASP*

Yep, I’m basically determined to drive myself batshit crazy this month. Let’s hope I don’t die, K?

So on this exciting adventure, I’ll post probably once a week or so and update y’all on my progress. And reassure you guys that I haven’t passed on yet, haha. Hopefully this act of madness will inspire you wonderful interwebs lovelies to challenge yourself and try something new and wild.

Much love & Caffeine,

Violet P.

PS: If you want to learn more about Nanowrimo, you can visit the official website http://nanowrimo.org/how-it-works. It might also help to check out this article on how to survive this ridiculous shit: http://www.xojane.com/fun/national-novel-writing-month.

Good luck, babes!

Nuuuu, not Mercury Retrograde!

Good morning and happy Friday, beautifuls! How was your week? Have you been participating in #Lovetober? I have- it’s actually been very nice and relatively simple. It’s a little something I get to look forward to each day. 🙂 Let me know if you guys want me to share mine.

So Gala Darling (Glitter Goddess) has reminded us all that- once again 😦 – Mercury is in fucking retrograde. I actually found the best thing on the Interwebs recently:

heheheh.

heheheh.

Now, for those of you who don’t know, Mercury Retrograde is a time when the planet Mercury appears to be orbiting backwards; rising in the west and setting in the east. According to my Astronomy class, it looks like that because Mercury has a longer orbital path than Earth- meaning the circle it makes around the sun is larger than that of Earth. Because of this, the Earth sometimes “catches up” to Mercury and passes it, making Mercury seem as though it is moving backwards in the sky. In more spiritual terms, Mercury Retrograde is a time when the attributions of Mercury (travel, transportation, messages, communication, etc.) are in their messed up, weakest forms. Gala Darling describes it here:

“It’s like everyone you know has suddenly gone mad! You might find yourself getting into bizarre arguments about nothing at all, being unable to finish sentences or barely even able to form a coherent thought. Your computer and other electronic equipment is more likely to go on the fritz. You could experience travel delays, too. Double-check your flights and take a book with you to keep you occupied while you wait for the train! We don’t tend to get all the information we need at this time, so it can be hard to make big decisions and it’s not always the best time to sign a contract, either. Expect to hear super-loud complaining from your friends who are Gemini or Virgo, since both are ruled by Mercury! Mercury also rules a lot of industries like publishing, writing, editing, advertising, sales, public relations and anything to do with transport, like airlines, the post office and cabs!”

Cue the universal ughhhhhhhghghghghgh.

Not the best time of the year for those of us who depend on creativity, communication, and getting shit done. So what the hell can one do to make the best of this frustrating event?

Should we panic??! Let's panic!!

Should we panic??! Let’s panic!!

Luckily, there are several guides on how to survive Mercury Retrograde and even make it into a beautiful situation. I’ve listed several links to guides I’ve found most helpful. Even though it technically doesn’t even start until tomorrow, it’s best to have our shit together as best as we can and prepare!

How To: Make Your Day Fuckin Fabulous (Part One)

Hello my autumn lovelies! Sorry for my extended absence. I started school and have been pretty darn busy on top of having writer’s block (Can I get a collective ughhh from fellow writers?). But fortunately for me, the Universe decided to smile upon me today and not only give me enough time to write, but even feel hella inspired to! I’m sparkling, babe! Cheers to the end of inspiration blocks and to more happy days like this one! Here are the first 25 tips to make your day as marvelous as your lovely self…

In The Morning~

1. Give your body a good stretch. 2. Give yourself a little time to really wake up so you don’t rush through the rest of the morning. 3. Open those blinds, darling! 4. Say “Good Morning” to at least two people; a good idea for those of you who live alone is to shoot a text to a close friend or relative. 5. Have a big glass of water. 6. Put on your favorite jams and dance/sing your heart out. 7. Check out your inspiration board(s) on pinterest. I swear, everyone should have them. 8. Eat a yummy and healthy breakfast to start your day off strong and have you feeling good. 9. Write down your worries (aka: shit you must get done) on a To Do list so you aren’t frantic throughout the day trying to remember that thing that you should have done two weeks ago. 10. Take care of what you can on that To Do list before you go to work/school. 11. Brush your teeth and wash your face! Sometimes that seriously helps me feel better refreshed and ready for the day. 12. Have at least one thing to look forward to today (new episode of your favorite tv show, coffee date with your friend, petting a neighborhood puppy, etc.). 13. Admire yourself in the mirror, ’cause you are damn fine! 14. Get dressed in clothes that you feel comfortable and confident wearing. 15. Tell your negative thoughts that it’s too early for that shit and they need to go back to sleep. 16. Light a candle in a really nice scent (fall is coming!). 17. Pack yourself a nice and healthy lunch because you deserve good things and good food. 18. Don’t forget a savory treat in that healthy lunch, though! 19. Do whatever morning routine feels good to you and relaxes your mind, be it emptying the dishwasher, making your bed, or doing a quick clean up of your home. 20. IF you have the time, work out! Even if it’s just ten minutes, your mind and body will thank you for it. 21. Fill up a bottle of water to take with you throughout your day. Being hydrated = feeling amazing. 22. Set a small goal for the day and set your mind on accomplishing it. 23.Moisturize those feet and those hands- it sucks and can really be distracting if you have cracked skin (it hurts!). 24. Hug somebody (yes, pets count). 25. Smile and know your day is going to be damn great. ❤

Sparking self-esteem within your children/siblings.

Hey ya’ll. Happy Tuesday! I can’t believe we’re already this far into August. Since a lot of kiddies shall be returning back to school very soon, now is the perfect time to catch up with them and make sure they’re developing a nice, steady foundation of self-confidence. Here are a few crafts or projects you can do with your child or younger sibling to help reinforce the idea that they are important, worthy, beautiful, and strong. The main message behind these projects is: Not only do YOU matter, but what you think about yourself matters too; your own perception of yourself is arguably the most powerful belief and is definitely more important than what other people think of you. I think it’s a great thing for kids to learn. Too often we start these journeys to self-acceptance so late in life. Give your loved one a head start. ♡

I AM BOARD

Grab a large piece of paper, a canvas, or any sort of similar material. For this craft we will be focusing on what we think of ourselves and what we think our strengths/positive qualities are. It’s vital to do this so that we recognize the good within ourselves and to remind us that we have things that we are not only already good at but can work on to become even more amazing than we already are. Grab some scissors, markers/crayons/pens/paints, a form of glue/tape, pretty little trinkets to adorn your craft, and any sort of patterned paper you enjoy (for an older child, you could incorporate magazine clippings). Using whatever writing utensil you’d like, draw in large letters “I AM…” and then go nuts. Fill in the space remaining with various characteristics you admire about yourself (i.e: strong, independent, talented at ___, good at ____) and decorate the heck out of it. For bonus points, include a picture of yourself- preferably a picture in which you felt most beautiful or happy.

PRETTY PETALS

For this craft you will need two different colored cardstock/papers, glue/tape, marker, something round you can trace (size depends on how big you want the flower to be), scissors, and a pencil. The main goal of this project is very similar to the one above; we will be naming characteristics/qualities of ourselves that we think are good or great, but these will mostly be one-word descriptions (ex.: truthful, artistic, kind, hardworking, etc.). Trace a circle on the piece of paper you would like to be the inner part of the flower. Cut the shape out and write your name on it with your favorite color marker. Feel free to decorate it as you please. Then, using your other piece of paper, draw petal shapes and cut these out too. The amount of petals is entirely up to you. Then write one nice thing about yourself on each petal- remember, you can decorate these too if you want! Then using the glue/tape, connect the petals to the center piece and voila! Your self-esteem flower is complete!

MYSELF & I

This last project is all about positivity. Unlike the two I have already mentioned, this particular craft involves both your own self-perception and how others view you. You will need either a canvas or a large piece of paper, a pen/marker, and some paints (watercolor will work best). Take your pen or marker and draw the silhouette of a person from the shoulders up. Next, take the paints and have fun. Decorate the two defined spaces of the paper as it pleases you. Personally, I made mine teal and green/blue on the outside and blue/purple on the inside of the silhouette. Wait for this to dry. When it’s safe to play with again, use your pen/marker and write the best compliments you have ever received on the outside of the silhouette. These may include compliments regarding physical appearance/beauty, but it’s important to really keep your mind on the great things of yourself that cannot be “seen”. After all, one’s true beauty cannot be measured by how fabulous you look on the outside! When you’ve completed that, take your time and write within the silhouette the characteristics you personally admire about yourself/love about you. When that is finished, adorn as you wish and feel proud that you’ve done this project.

Thanks to Pinterest for inspiring these projects. Have you tried/will you be trying any of these with your little ones? What were the results?

D.I.Y Happiness Jar

Good morning, my lovelies! Sending you much love and good vibes today. I learned a super cool craft from the ever-stunning Bethany Mota this past weekend and I just knew that I needed to share it with ya’ll. If you’ve never heard of her before, check out her Youtube channel; you won’t regret it. Her videos never fail to put a smile on my face and she’s a crafter at heart so she’s always coming up with cool ways to make things. This project is based on the Happiness Jar she showed in her newest #Roomspiration video.

In short, a Happiness Jar is a way to stay grounded and grateful. Each and every day you add another piece of paper that describes one thing (at the least!) that made you feel happy or smile that day. I really enjoy the bright colors of Post-it Notes so I used scissors to cut off the sticky part and keep the colorful papers next to a gel pen; of course all this is next to my jar. This jar can be **whatever** you want it to be and however you want it to look-as long as it makes you delighted to gaze upon it! It could be a Mason jar, a mini bucket, a box, or a washed glass bottle like I used (It was a Tazo Iced Tea bottle). Decorate it however the heck you want to. This is YOUR little Jar of Happy. Personally, I made sure to include sparkly fibers, charms, glitter, and gems. Go nuts, babe.

I’ve only been using it for two days but I truly feel like it helps me hold on to positive energy. It’s definitely something to try. Let me know if you have tried this or already own one. Do you feel like it contributes positively to your life? What does it look like? How often do you add to it?

One Hundred Things.

Happy Monday, everybody! It’s been a gorgeous couple days now. The grass is wet from rain, the sun is shining upon the face of the world, and this summer breeze is divine. Seems like a recipe for a peaceful day, eh?

To help add to this bright and lovely day, let’s get some gratitude up in this bitch. ;D This is as much an exercise for me as it is for you- I DARE you to whip out your Radical Self Love Bible/Art Journal/Diary and write down one-freaking-hundred things you are thankful for. Said things can be: people, memories, places, objects, creatures, feelings, etc. Hell, write it down using your favorite color pen! Doodle the heck out of these pages, man!

(TL;DR: Go H.A.M on this, por favor.)
