A Long-Overdue Update

Happy Friday, y’all! I’m so grateful that it’s the weekend. I’ve been feeling so lazy and sleep this week and I’m determined to be super productive and energized this weekend. I hope you all get done what you need to get done and get plenty of rest and laugh a bit too. Since I went on a month-ish-long hiatus from the Blogosphere I figured a quick life update was in order. Here goes…

  • I’m still single. J and I still have feelings for each other but I truly believe that at this point in our lives we’re betting off staying best friends. I’m not looking for any romantic relationship- I’m quite content by myself.
  • As tiring as it can be, I’ve come to enjoy working at the bakery. My coworkers and bosses are fabulous and I’m so blessed to receive a paycheck and work with such awesome ladies.
  • I have one more (!!!) semester of college left before I earn my A.A! I’ll be graduating before the end of this year and I’m very excited and nervous. I’ll have to write a post on the subject, I think it’s something a lot of people my age would appreciate and hopefully find comfort in.
  • I recently turned 20! And so far, being the big 2-0 has treated me quite well.
  • I’ve fallen off the goals/dreams wagon lately but I’m getting my ass back on tracks. I think I deserve to be happy and well, so I’ll try my hardest.

Sorry for such a tiny post today, loves, but I have a ton of things to do and have to be at work this afternoon. I’m hoping to begin posting every few days and (hopefully) you’ll enjoy some new content!

So much love and hugs,

Violet XO

Surprise! I’m back, baby!

Good morning, lovelies of the Interwebs! It’s been a hot minute since we last spoke, huh? I apologize for not being on in so long. I’ve been in a sort of denial about writing lately. Part of me felt too overworked to write, and the other part of me recognized that I simply didn’t want to write. I know, I know. Bad Violet- writers keep on writing! It doesn’t matter if they want to, they just do it anyway and see where it takes them! But anyhoo, personally, I’m not being too hard on myself because I feel as though I was in a negative, unsatisfactory, just-plain-dull place in my life; and this is a space dedicated to positivity, love, and compassion. I felt entirely at a loss as how to navigate my life and my feelings. It wasn’t that I was in a dark place- it was nothing like that- but it was an area devoid of true joy and genuine passion. Let’s be honest, if I can’t get my shit together enough to help someone smile a little longer, then how useful would my writing be?

So as totally cliche as it sounds, I’ve been doing mega soul-searching. I’ve had my nose in books, flowers in my room, crystals around my neck, and all other things I assumed a lifestyle guru would suggest. I’ve learned quite a bit and I’m honestly so psyched to share it with you all.

Cheers- to new beginnings, and picking up where we left off.

Tons of love,

Violet XO

Positive & Easy Visualization!

Good morning, you stunning mega-babes. It’s finally the weekend (and one after a stressful holiday at that). I hope it treats you kindly and you get to do what you want.

I’ve become a frequent XOJaner because occasionally they have magnificent, beautifully written, and thought provoking posts. And while most of the time the comments sections are a shitshow, I’ve noticed that the XOJane community can also be a loving and compassionate place of support and kindness. People use it as an outlet to express troublesome feelings or talk about their problems, and a lot of the time the responses are positive and caring.

As I pondered what to check out on the Interwebs today, I visited the most recent open thread. One of Jane’s questions was “what’s at the top of your Best Of 2015 List?” and explained a visualization technique that involved jotting down ten things you want in 2015 and write them down as if they have happened. Personally, I think this idea is GENIUS, so I wanted to share it with you lovely people. Bonus points if you meditate on it once a day. 😉

Here is my Best Of 2015 List:

☼ I was published again.

☼ I won a writing contest.

☼ I tried tons of new, positive activities and healthy foods.

☼ I volunteered to help animals and various other causes.

☼ I pet, like, ALL the animals.

☼ I made straight A’s in both semesters.

☼ I dyed my hair purple again and looked like a fabulous mermaid.

☼ My skincare was steady so my skin cleared up completely.

☼ I increased my confidence and self-esteem

☼ I gained 10 more followers to my blog and people commented on some of my posts.

That was surprisingly easy to write! Tip: Don’t let negativity try to put a damper on your dreams for 2015. You might have a small voice saying “I can’t do that well” or “This is unbelievable and impossible to achieve”; tell that voice to suck it and keep on dreaming big. What are your Best Of 2015 moments? Share ’em below!

Sparking self-esteem within your children/siblings.

Hey ya’ll. Happy Tuesday! I can’t believe we’re already this far into August. Since a lot of kiddies shall be returning back to school very soon, now is the perfect time to catch up with them and make sure they’re developing a nice, steady foundation of self-confidence. Here are a few crafts or projects you can do with your child or younger sibling to help reinforce the idea that they are important, worthy, beautiful, and strong. The main message behind these projects is: Not only do YOU matter, but what you think about yourself matters too; your own perception of yourself is arguably the most powerful belief and is definitely more important than what other people think of you. I think it’s a great thing for kids to learn. Too often we start these journeys to self-acceptance so late in life. Give your loved one a head start. ♡

I AM BOARD

Grab a large piece of paper, a canvas, or any sort of similar material. For this craft we will be focusing on what we think of ourselves and what we think our strengths/positive qualities are. It’s vital to do this so that we recognize the good within ourselves and to remind us that we have things that we are not only already good at but can work on to become even more amazing than we already are. Grab some scissors, markers/crayons/pens/paints, a form of glue/tape, pretty little trinkets to adorn your craft, and any sort of patterned paper you enjoy (for an older child, you could incorporate magazine clippings). Using whatever writing utensil you’d like, draw in large letters “I AM…” and then go nuts. Fill in the space remaining with various characteristics you admire about yourself (i.e: strong, independent, talented at ___, good at ____) and decorate the heck out of it. For bonus points, include a picture of yourself- preferably a picture in which you felt most beautiful or happy.

PRETTY PETALS

For this craft you will need two different colored cardstock/papers, glue/tape, marker, something round you can trace (size depends on how big you want the flower to be), scissors, and a pencil. The main goal of this project is very similar to the one above; we will be naming characteristics/qualities of ourselves that we think are good or great, but these will mostly be one-word descriptions (ex.: truthful, artistic, kind, hardworking, etc.). Trace a circle on the piece of paper you would like to be the inner part of the flower. Cut the shape out and write your name on it with your favorite color marker. Feel free to decorate it as you please. Then, using your other piece of paper, draw petal shapes and cut these out too. The amount of petals is entirely up to you. Then write one nice thing about yourself on each petal- remember, you can decorate these too if you want! Then using the glue/tape, connect the petals to the center piece and voila! Your self-esteem flower is complete!

MYSELF & I

This last project is all about positivity. Unlike the two I have already mentioned, this particular craft involves both your own self-perception and how others view you. You will need either a canvas or a large piece of paper, a pen/marker, and some paints (watercolor will work best). Take your pen or marker and draw the silhouette of a person from the shoulders up. Next, take the paints and have fun. Decorate the two defined spaces of the paper as it pleases you. Personally, I made mine teal and green/blue on the outside and blue/purple on the inside of the silhouette. Wait for this to dry. When it’s safe to play with again, use your pen/marker and write the best compliments you have ever received on the outside of the silhouette. These may include compliments regarding physical appearance/beauty, but it’s important to really keep your mind on the great things of yourself that cannot be “seen”. After all, one’s true beauty cannot be measured by how fabulous you look on the outside! When you’ve completed that, take your time and write within the silhouette the characteristics you personally admire about yourself/love about you. When that is finished, adorn as you wish and feel proud that you’ve done this project.

Thanks to Pinterest for inspiring these projects. Have you tried/will you be trying any of these with your little ones? What were the results?

Getting to know me better!

Since my About page is pretty sparse,I thought I’d let you guys know a little bit about me. Besides, we could be hella awesome friends, right? My name is Violet Petals. I’m going through the process of getting my Gen Ed for a 2 year English degree, and will hopefully continue on to achieve higher education. I love writing, animals, and gloomy weather (with loooots of rain!). I have “Lusty Lavender” hair according to Splat and spend time admiring my little Loaches. If you’ve never seen them, look them up! They look like teeny tiny little eels with mustaches; even without a top hat they already look dapper. I only have a few close friends. During and after high school my circle of friends nearly disintegrated. I’m trying to navigate through the spiritual waters of Wicca- it’s something I’m very much interested in and I totally welcome and appreciate any stories/questions/pretty much anything on that subject. As mentioned in my About page, I’ve struggled with self-harm and continue to deal with Depression and Anxiety daily. These are topics that are dear to my heart, and one day I’m sure I’ll dedicate a few posts to my story and my visit in a mental hospital. And if any of you that are reading this are going through any of these things:

IT WILL BE OKAY.

Hell, eventually, it will be more than okay.

If you’re looking for a sign of strength, a sign to keep going, this is it.

I’m writing this now for you, and the beautiful life you will live if you keep holding on.

It’s so fucking hard, but I swear loves, it gets easier and better and one day you’ll wake up and realize it was all worth it. Every pain was worth all the moments filled with peace and happiness.

Damnit, YOU are worth it.

Sending you much love and positive thoughts.
