Positive & Easy Visualization!

Good morning, you stunning mega-babes. It’s finally the weekend (and one after a stressful holiday at that). I hope it treats you kindly and you get to do what you want.

I’ve become a frequent XOJaner because occasionally they have magnificent, beautifully written, and thought provoking posts. And while most of the time the comments sections are a shitshow, I’ve noticed that the XOJane community can also be a loving and compassionate place of support and kindness. People use it as an outlet to express troublesome feelings or talk about their problems, and a lot of the time the responses are positive and caring.

As I pondered what to check out on the Interwebs today, I visited the most recent open thread. One of Jane’s questions was “what’s at the top of your Best Of 2015 List?” and explained a visualization technique that involved jotting down ten things you want in 2015 and write them down as if they have happened. Personally, I think this idea is GENIUS, so I wanted to share it with you lovely people. Bonus points if you meditate on it once a day. 😉

Here is my Best Of 2015 List:

☼ I was published again.

☼ I won a writing contest.

☼ I tried tons of new, positive activities and healthy foods.

☼ I volunteered to help animals and various other causes.

☼ I pet, like, ALL the animals.

☼ I made straight A’s in both semesters.

☼ I dyed my hair purple again and looked like a fabulous mermaid.

☼ My skincare was steady so my skin cleared up completely.

☼ I increased my confidence and self-esteem

☼ I gained 10 more followers to my blog and people commented on some of my posts.

That was surprisingly easy to write! Tip: Don’t let negativity try to put a damper on your dreams for 2015. You might have a small voice saying “I can’t do that well” or “This is unbelievable and impossible to achieve”; tell that voice to suck it and keep on dreaming big. What are your Best Of 2015 moments? Share ’em below!

I love winter, but I want my Vitamin D!

Hi, lovelies.

It’s been one of those days.. It seems that in winter (without much sun or my favorite weather, rain) I always find myself in a deep slump. I’m either totally bored, grumpy, or not feeling satisfied with my productivity level. It’s during this season that I need to remind myself to slow down and pay attention to my well-being. If you feel the same as myself and many others,- and even if you don’t, it’s still important- take some time today to figure out the ways you can take care of yourself wholly. After all, it’s hard to help out and be kind to others when you’re not feeling well!

How do you practice self-care during these harsher months?

As for myself, I tend to:

❀ Get out of my own head, be it through reading books, watching documentaries, or creating something that requires my focus and attention.

❀ Take multivitamins once a day. I am by no means a doctor (and you should always ask yours first before taking any sort of supplement, but my psychiatrist recommends I take them because we don’t always get enough sunlight/nutrients. I suggest bringing it up with your physician; especially if you take certain types of anti-depressants or anti-anxiety meds like I do.

❀ Try my best to quell feelings of boredom. This means that whenever I’m feeling particularly lethargic and bored, I force myself to get up and do something. When I feel the laziness and dissatisfaction arising, I shall try out a new makeup look (the crazier the better!), make something for someone, bake a sweet treat, look for new music, try out a new meditation or exercise, annoy my merm with random questions, art to my RSL (Radical Self Love) Bible, etc. The possibilities to fill up your boring time are pretty much endless.

❀ Carve out a block of time to work out and pump up those endorphins, and also to meditate. My personal favorite meditations can all be found on Youtube and include Gabrielle Bernstein, The Five Minute Miracle, and Positive Change by The Mind Guide.

❀ Go outside! It’s always incredible to me how much we need nature to be healthy and feel whole. It’s so easy to become hermits and blanket burritos this time of year, but I promise some time outside will do you good. Just remember to dress warmly! Bonus points if you walk your furry friend(s).

❀ Get the chores I hate out of the way. Yeah, I’m looking at you, pile of dirty laundry and un-swept bedroom floor. It’s hard to not feel productive when you’ve already tackled the big things.

Let me know if these tips help you out, or if you have any to add to my list! 🙂

Much love and warm wishes, from me to you. Stay cozy!

Progress Update

Hello, sparkly loves. How is the season where you live? Have you been getting snow? Around here it snowed in November but it looks like a green Christmas. But, hey- as long as our loved ones are with us it doesn’t really matter, right?

Today is Day 3 of meditating once a day. I’ve implemented it into my morning routine; first I stretch and drink some water- and let’s face it, I’ll probably be checking out my phone for a good hour or so-, then I do some yoga (I suggest the Do You Yoga channel on Youtube, especially the ones with Erin Motz) and pick a short guided meditation video. I’ve noticed it makes me a little bit more relaxed and ready for the day. I feel energized and satisfied- though to be fair, I might just feel satisfied from actually doing something healthy for myself, ha. Regardless, so far it’s adding positively to my life.

How are y’all doing on the challenge? Have you started it, and if so, what is your routine? How has it affected you?

I know this is a super quick post, but it’s holiday time for my family so I shall be spending time with them. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it, and a happy winter and holidays to you all. ♥

Blessed Yule & Spreading the love ♥

Good afternoon, babes! I’m wishing y’all a happy and merry Yule. 🙂 Yule is the time of the winter solstice and one that Christians and their holiday Christmas borrowed a few traditions from. It’s a time of celebration- it is when some Pagans and Wiccans observe the story of a god being reborn. Sound familiar? It’s also a time where we are invited to look within ourselves for wisdom and guidance and plan ahead for the next wintry months. If you’re interested in learning more, a couple basic informative webpages are: https://wicca.com/celtic/akasha/yule.htm & http://paganwiccan.about.com/od/yulethelongestnight/p/Yule_History.htm.

I’ve had my altar decorated for a while (glittery pine cones, deep and royal jewel-tones, gold/silver/white candles and all) and I can’t wait to spread the holiday cheer. Since my family and I still celebrate Christmas, I’m saving the gift giving for the 25th. Other acts of kindness, however, are fair game for today. It’s always nice to have a reminder to be your kindest, most loving self!

For those who would like to join me in making a small piece of the world a little brighter, I’ve listed a few things I’ve done/will be doing today to invoke the jolly holiday spirit!

♥ If you’re on any virtual gaming websites, spend some of your points to buy kind gifts and gift randomly to strangers! An example for a virtual pet site could be giving out food that someone could feed their pets, a toy the pet can play with, etc.

♥ When you’re browsing the comments section of a post or article, be an encouraging soul! There’s usually a few bummed-out people on there, and sometimes a few kind words or a *hugs* can help cheer that person up. You can also write a “Good job! Thank you for writing this!” or “Well done!” if you enjoyed the piece.

♥ Pamper your pets! Whether it’s giving them a special treat, carving out more time of your day to play with them, super-cleaning their living space, or taking them on an extra walk, our furry friends (and non-furry) deserve some love and affection.

♥ Write out a spontaneous Thank You letter or send a random loved one a card listing some of the reasons why you think they are great!

♥ Spend time outside today; we can’t forget to show Mother Nature some love! Grab your bestie and pick up some litter, then treat yourselves to some yummy hot chocolate or heated beverage of your choice.

♥ Compliment a stranger who you genuinely think looks good in that scarf or has their makeup done gorgeously!

♥ Smile at other people!

♥ Do some extra chores around the house! Do a kind deed without someone asking you too, do a loved one’s chore that you know that they strongly dislike doing. I guarantee it will make their day a little easier.

I hope you have a great Monday and a blessed Yule. What do you do for others on days like this? How do you spread your kindness?

Meditation Challenge!

Good evening, lovelies of the Interwebs. I hope you’re having a blessed weekend and enjoying some well-deserved relaxation!

Today started out as an awfully average (read: boring) day. I did some productive things, but I think at least 70% of my day has been spent in total sloth- and not eve the satisfying, restful kind. I felt (and still sort of feel) a bit unchallenged, lifeless, and dull. Neither screwing around on the Internet, nor adding some colorful pages to my RSL, seemed to help feed me some of the energy I yearned for. Obviously I gained enough energy and motivation to click to my blog and post here, but what changed my mind?

What gave me the energy I needed to begin taking on the challenge that my life presented to me tonight?

Meditation.

Yep, I’m serious. It’s something many happy people seem to have in common; they are not only thoughtful, but they practice daily moments dedicated to being mindful and thoughtful (which is usually in the form of meditation for the sake of ease and efficiency). I decided it was time to spend a few moments listening to guided meditations and even though my back hurt (ugh, proper posture sucks) I soon slipped into a more natural and refreshing breathing pattern. It became easier to envision what the speakers suggested and I found myself with a slightly higher amount of energy- what some would claim is a higher vibrational frequency. I don’t know if I wholeheartedly believe in that, but I’m open and willing to the idea. Regardless, all it took was ten minutes and a couple Gabrielle Bernstein videos.

In one of her videos she explained the importance of really committing and adhering to one’s spiritual practice. This made me think- what if part of the reason I feel so lost is because I haven’t grounded myself yet? Perhaps it’s because I haven’t been tethered to a fulfilling belief in practice. I’m not even sure if what I just wrote makes sense, but it’s food for thought. Well, food for my thoughts, at least.

I challenge you darlings to a week-long meditation binge. I want you to pick a chunk of time (15-30 minutes) and dedicate it solely to being mindful and doing a meditation of three. We live busy lives but it’s about time we sacrifice a small percentage of them in order to gain spiritual balance and inner-peace. Don’t worry, I’ll be doing the challenge myself right along with you.

Bright blessings and much love,

Violet XO

Developing & Maintaining Healthy Habits!

Hey y’all! I hope the winter is treating you guys well. Where I live it’s finally getting chilly and I’m excited to break the peppermint tea out. Who am I kidding, I already broke that out a looong time ago.

Anyhoo, one of my goals for the rest of December (at least) is to develop and maintain as many healthy habits and behaviors as possible. The school “year” enabled me to give various excuses for taking shortcuts when it came to health; i.e. “I’m just sooo tired”, “I’m too stressed to do that”, “I totally don’t have time or energy for that”. While I was kept pretty busy, 85% of the time I was simply slacking off- which isn’t cool because I should treat my body right! Our bodies are our temples, as people say. We should practice good health and well being as our religion, and celebrate and show gratitude for the wondrous activities our bodies let us do.

So, now that I have zero excuses to try and shift my focus from health, I’m challenging myself to research on the healthiest things people can do for themselves. I’ll be adding to my (hopefully massive) list of healthy To Do’s as the days go by, but here is the prototype so far:

❀ Drink tea once a day

❀ Listen to feel-good music

❀ Devote an hour to expressing emotions in a creative way (ex: painting, mandalas, sketching, writing, etc.)

❀ Sing (if the day permits)

❀ Brush my teeth twice a day AND floss

❀ Spend a min. of 20 minutes outside every day

❀ Set aside 5-10 minutes of meditation

❀ Break a sweat (i.e. cardio, running, yoga, etc.)

❀ Drink 8 glasses of water a day

❀ Eat a healthy, balanced diet

❀ Stretch!

❀ Pray and remember what I am thankful for

❀ Take care of my poor, dry feet

❀ Moisturize (because having healthy skin is important to stay sickness-free)

❀Be kind to my face and NEVER sleep with makeup on

❀ Read for 30+ minutes

Phew, and that’s just the ones I could name off the top of my head! What about you- what are the things you do every day to keep up your good health? Can you add anything to my list? What is your favorite health routine?

Much love & hugs to you all.
